I have been given a 12v , 10" radiator fan. I am experimenting with making my own skylight extractor fan set up.
I had a PWM voltage controller box from another project and although this speeds up and slows fan the fan makes a high pitch whine noise that you don't get if connected direct to a 6v or 12v battery.
Is my mistake trying a PWM controller? I guess that is more suited to led lights?
Can you point me to a simple cheap 12v speed controller that will let me.play with the speed of the 12v fan?

That is exactly the same controller I have but making a whine noise on anything but full speed?

Try a capacitor on the fan, mounted across the pos and neg. It will smooth the pwm signal. On a small fan a 220 micro farad works fine, at least I think that was what I used.......
