Hi

I am toying with replacing my Motorhome with a Campervan and small Caravan, I just think I would get more use out of this combo but no final decision yet.

I did see what looked like a bargain today on a forecourt but now beginning to wonder/worry.

The Campervan is a new conversion (2020) on a 2006 Mercedes VIANO MPV 3.5L Petrol Automatic, price is £25k.

It only has 56k on the clock and I was told was an import from Japan, it does all look in pretty good condition and engine ought to be only partially run in!

However, it seems to be still registered as an MPV and Taxed as Private Light Goods (PLG).

I would really appreciate any thoughts, issues, concerns from anyone with experience of this type of vehicle/conversion etc!

It will a grey import, insurance may be more difficult to get, spares may be different and harder to obtain. It will be well maintained and low mileage could well be true.
Oh and less rust no salt used on the roads.

Don't worry though. All you will need to do is whisper "salt" to it and it will fall apart

I wouldn't touch a 2006 Viano with yours!

My neighbour purchased an 62 plated ex-DPD 7m (or is it 7.2) with 62000 miles on the clock, for £6000. He got a local guy to convert it, which cost him another £10,000.

It’s not got all the bells and whistles, but everything you would need….4 belted seats, toilet / shower, fridge, leisure batteries, massive double fixed bed and lots of storage for his diving gear. He still hasn’t done his solar yet though.

Just giving you an idea of how much he spent.

Hmmmmm, I am reading sone good things about longevity of the VIANO and you do seem to get a much more for less money than a VW, BUT..........

Might take it for a test drive tomorrow and see what I think.
