Question about a go box. Do you just need the v5
Hi Perry, click on the little magnifying glass symbol at the top of the page and type go box into to the search box that pops up. Loads of posts about will come up.
:welco:
You also need your Certificate of Conformity or you will get charged the highest rate.
Is this to prove your emissions level?

This postfrom royandsharont is helpful, sorry I dont know how to link directly to it:

Russ M When we decided to go through Austria it meant we had to get the GoBox BEFORE we ever put a wheel on the motorway system, if not then big fine from the ANPR cameras

So I needed to scan & send all the vehicle docs, V5 & cert of conformity I seem to recall, to Asfinag & get an account with them once the vehicle was recorded.

Then either before entry to Austria, or after entry but before any motorways, I attended a GoBox selling point and paid my credit, 75€ I seem to recall, etc using my documents which they married up with the compute. GoBox activated by them & I fitted to the screen as instructed. Then was charged about 25c a Km I think, very expensive.

If I had not pre registered I think I only had 14 days to do so after collecting a box or else another big fine. I’ve met people who have been fined too so I would never take the risk. One German I met in Italy was fined for buying his vignette whilst there which meant he had done some of the initial journey on the motorway without a vignette. I think he had a 100€ FPN posted to his address in Germany & his wife rang to tell him. They would not let him off despite knowing he had bought a vignette later down the motorway so he had not avoided getting one ☹️

The credit only lasts 2 years so you have to top up again to get credit back or return the box on departure, getting your unused credit back, and get a new one next time. I found it all very much a pain.

So I started crossing Austria and avoiding any motorways so no box needed, easily doable if a bit slower. You may not need it for your intended journey, check out the maps.

It took me a while to type this so I now see the replies above which confirm my information

Hope this helps & gives you time to get registered if you decide to get one.

Yes, our freinds got both. Got the gobox but didnt know they had to prove emmissions class. Had their holiday at highest rate and then also received a fine months later €200 ish
Ouch

Avoid Austria if you have a motorhome >3500kg as we received a €280 fine even though we provided all the necessary documentation to the service station representative! It transpired that they failed to send the documents on to ASFINAG but there was no way of proving this so had to pay!!

We have been through Austria quite a few times without using toll roads, just make sure you choose a route that doesn't go near toll roads in case of a diversion.

pezza1973 Yours doesn’t have the Euro engine info because it is over 3500kg, that is why you need the C of C as that information is on there. This is all due to the UK tax system and yours is a Private HGV not taxed on its emissions, so not relevant

What's rare about a Certificate of Conformity it comes with every van since about 2004. Van can't be registered without it.
I’m the third owner of our van. It wasn’t in the document pack we got when we bought it. All I have is a scanned copy of the version that SMC had on file. To get “an original copy” costs about £150.

And it’s all in German any way. Thank goodness for Google translate…

To be honest I’d never seen a CoC until I got that. And we’ve owned several new cars!

That’s confusing, perhaps it has uprated to over 3500kg or just a human mistake when registering it? I don’t remember mine showing a weight too in the Private HGV tax class but I cannot check now. I think it is still at £165 ish a year so check what you pay. Looking at your avatar if that is your van it is quite likely it is over 3500kg.

I got my C of C with my new van & passed it on when sold but I wonder if some who don’t have a need to use them just loose them.

Thats the OPs v5. I was just wondering if the max permissible weight of 3500kgs means he doesnt need a gobox at all?? Which figure takes precedence?
I wouldnt think you could uprate from 3500 to 5500 ??

Over 3500kgs and a conversion you need one for certain things. Go box being one of them. Note it has to be issued by the converter not the chassis manufacturer.

I have a Burstner one for the gas installation, but not for the Fiat base vehicle
I have a Fiat one, an Al-ko one and the important one the Hymer one, always had them with every van we have bought. I wouldn't have been able to register them without the Hymer one.
