We're crossing into Spain through the Pyrenees at Vielha. The plan is to travel via the backwaters of eastern Spain to Almeria in about 6 or 7 days, avoiding the coast, avoiding motorways, but looking for those out of the way gems. Any ideas would be most welcome...

Thanks in advance.

It all depends when you are travelling and if you want to stay on camp sites. As a starter for ten I’d suggest you add Albarracin to your itinerary, then maybe Aranjuez depending how easterly you want to travel.
If you like hilly walking areas off the beaten track then La Valle de Laguar (Campell) and El Berro are definitely worth a visit.

We're leaving central France tomorrow and we're happy to stop anywhere

La Valle de Laguar we know well,

Aranjuez is maybe too far inland for this trip but we often travel south through Madrid so will visit then...
