Hi
Has anyone got any ideas or ever had any problems with water in the habitation door footwells. I have a puddle under the mat and wonder if it's the seals. I know there is a rubber seal all around the internal rebate of the door but have noticed that there is a rubber seal in the edge of the door but only across the top. Is this common practice on motorhomes?

Hi Neil,

I would put money on the door or the seal being the problem.

I had the same issue with our 2017 Pilote and as it transpired the seal was not mating properly on the hinge side of the door.

The best thing to do is to remove the carpet and dry the area entirely before applying a hose pipe around the whole seal. I would apply the water for about 60-seconds before inspecting the inside of the door.

The seal is unlikely to be deformed so you may find that you will need to adjust the door slightly so that it creates a tighter compression on the seal itself.

In the end I managed to adjust the door inwards by about 2mm and this solved the problem. Be warned that most doors do not allow for much adjustment though.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

@Neil Jenkins Have found condensation build up on the sides of the step and then it runs under carpet - also I have very small drain holes in the step, under the carpet, and this has got wet after driving through heavy rain - hope this helps too (y)

Thanks Andrew that's what I was thinking. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow for something else so I'll ask them to adjust the doors at least now I've had a second opinion and know what to tell them.
Thanks for your help
Neil

I know of three other vans that have had the same issue as my Pilote so the door and seal combo looks to be the obvious culprit.

If you look at your hinges and how they are mounted within the channels of the door frame then you'll notice that the screws are not always precisely mounted - this was the case with mine and IMO it's this slight irregularity in how the hinges are affixed to the frame that causes the lack of compression of the door against the seal.

Good luck with the dealer Neil - I hope all goes well.

All the best,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew probably will need luck the way the dealers are!

If it’s s Hartel fort they renown for bad fitting . It it is a Zeist it’s probably the door cartridge seal across the gutter at the top. They need to be removed and re sealed with sikflex .

Not sure what make it is. It's on a chausson van just got back from dealership they going to have a look at it but think the doors seem a bit rubbish on the chausson compared to other makes you can feel the difference when you open and closes them
