Hi All,

I’m planning to buy an older camper from the mid 1980s and could use some advice. For an ample supply of parts, I have decided to go with a Ford Transit, a highly common van that parts should be easier to come by. I’m presently considering buying one with a petrol engine. As a petrol engine Ford Transit is quite rare, I’m concerned that specific parts may be difficult to come by. I am also concerned about the fuel bill, even though petrol is only slightly dearer than diesel lately (it may have gas gussling properties that a diesel of same age may not have).

If anyone has any tips or information that I should take into account in making this decision, I am all ears.

Thanks In Advance for all responses.

dont know where you are but petrol is still 2 to 3 pence a liter cheaper than diesel in Scarborough.

i think you may be pushing it a bit with a petrol from the 80's.
I'll be the same engine as in the cortina range and they are all but extinct now.
spares could be hard to source, both new and used.

if i remember right the 2ltr tranny had a 2ltr V4...same as the corsair.
very smooth engine.

i tried to get one for a transplant into my Suzuki SJ410 a few years ago but ran into brick walls at every attempt to find one.

Stick with a diesel, much tougher engines and cheaper to run.
