Bit of advice please. Has anyone had these fitted? I have a panel van conversion so would plates also be required for the sliding and rear doors? Also I seem to remember a link in a previous thread to gentleman taking a front door apart to fit them, does anyone know the link?

I think this is the link you mean - just go at it a bit steadier than he does!

If you have factory fitted deadlocks you will only need the driver's and rear doors. I f you do not have factory fitted deadlocks you will need to fit to all four doors. (Factory fitted deadlocks are the ones that auto lock after 12mph)

Auto locking is a menu option that works whether or not deadlocks are fitted. It's not deadlocking as the doors can still be opened from the inside. It just prevents someone outside the van from opening the doors when you are sitting in traffic by activating the normal central locking the first time the vehicle exceeds about 12 mph in any journey.

Deadlocks can only be activated from the remote fob by pressing the locking button twice within a couple of seconds and prevents the doors from being opened from the internal handles by isolating the locking motors from the lock mechanism. It is only fitted on vans built to UK spec unless specially ordered as an accessory. You can't set the deadlocks using the key in the door lock, but you can unlock them that way if they have been set with the remote fob.

For that reason deadlocks can still be overridden by manipulating the lock mechanism from outside of the van, but pro-plates on the two key cylinder equipped doors (driver's and rear) goes a long way towards preventing that.

If you're not sure whether you have deadlocks, get in the van preferably with a window open. Press the remote fob locking button twice within a couple of seconds. You should hear the door lock motors distinctly operate twice in succession and the indicators should flash three times. Try all of the internal door handles and you should not be able to open any of the doors from the inside on a panel van. Whether the hab door is deadlocked on a coachbuilt depends on the converter's installation, but factory deadlocks are unlikely to be found on many coachbuilt vans anyway, as they would be an extra cost option).

This is a good reason for being a member of this Forum. You learn something new every day! I do have factory fitted dealocks - I just thought that going 'clunk' after driving off was the confirmation!

Many thanks to all who replied. One last question, is there a way I can save this thread to make it easy to find in future?
