Hi , we have a self build pvc conversion with a propex heatsource blown air heating system, all works well heats up and thermostatic control works as it should, but I find it smells when running for a while i have carbon monoxide alarms fitted with a display to show levels which doesn’t indicate anything sinister going on , so just wondering is this normal with gas heating?

Never noticed a smell with ours, have a look under the van and you will see two connections to the heater, one is the air going in and the other is the exhaust going out. They will be close together but check if they are away from each other or blocked at all.

7 years campers before that
the exterior in and out are isolated from the internal by the heat exchanger just check theres nothing blocking the internal air in duct

Check for gas leaks around all visible gas joints

You may have a small leak that the air circulating fan
Is passing over the heat exchanger causing the gas to cook

Unlikely but worth a check

We had one of those on a previous conversion and that smelled every time it was used and very noisy. the inlet and exhaust pipes were very close to each other but within the recommended distance that I seem to remember then was around 500mm? The unit was housed under the single seat by the sliding door with a single heat outlet there.
