I'm a newbie
Just asking the informed may I substitute a full butane bottle for a half empty propane bottle as an emergency bottle in the locker for if I run out of LPG in underslung tank during pending French trip just have trauma water / air heater, three way fridge, and hob grill etc.

Yes it will work ok but you need a different connection to the bottle.
You can buy an adaptor hose that you can connect directly from a remote bottle to your onboard LPG fill point. Check out the gaslow or gasit sites for details
You can also connect a French bottle to your fill point also with the same hose but with French adaptor.

Unfortunately most campsites will not allow a free standing cylinder used externally.
Also it’s a high pressure hose connection between the cylinder and the filler point which isn’t a great idea ⚠️
GOK do make the only kit I have seen to connect an external cylinder to a leisure vehicle as set out in the BSEN1949:2021

Definitely the club sites but most bigger sites that know the gas regulations .
Yes you will always find some that either couldn’t care less or haven’t got a clue .
We actually sell the Gaslow version of the connection hose but I warn customers that they may not be able to use it and that they are potentially dangerous.
