Hymer Exsis-I 588
Hi, Just bought our first motorhome, a Hymer Exsis privately. Within a week hit the first problem, thus starting on the odyssey of motorhome DIY.

The driver's door slide out step has stopped sliding out automatically. It sounds like the motor is running but no movement in the step. Motor runs again when door closed. The slide can be manually pulled out then motor is running to slide out and pushed back when the motor is running to pull the step back in. I have removed the platform and it looks like the motor sometimes catches the arms and draws them back. It was -5C the night before this happened so suspect the gears have either stripped or shattered. After lots of searching I think the step is a Project 2000 10856 - https://www.aboutcampbtob.eu/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/N19_Project2000.pdf and https://www.lippertcomponents.eu/assets/content/support/manuals/steps/CCD-0002550.pdf

I have found a diagram of components - https://www.lippertcomponents.eu/as...omplist/project2000_steps/P2K-10856 Steps.pdf and gearbox spare parts online at <Broken link removed> and https://ukleisureparts.reimo-shops....0-entry-steps/9907/gear-wheels-for-step-10856.

All I need now is the YouTube video showing me how to take the steps apart!! Just wondering if anyone out there has ever taken a Project 2000 slide out step apart and replaced the gears?

I guess I will just have to take it apart and see what I find and then see if I can get the right parts. Would I be better to see if I could get some made up in steel or is breaking the gears better than burning out the motor.

Such fun, motorhomes :)

Trouble now is finding someone who will ship to the UK 🙁 or finding someone on here who lives over in EU who could get it for you.

There are a few companies that make custom gears it might be eaiser to get one made, Google it.
When you put back together use the next size up and longer self tappers to hold the arms on. The standard ones work lose and fall out.
Also when reassembling do not use white grease on the sliders it will make it stick & judder putting strain on the mechanism. I found ordinary old fastion grease works best.

Thank you - an expensive piece of plastic! Twice the price of pitstopcampers who also only deliver in EU!

I have a problem with a project 2000 electric step.
The step did not work when the vehicle was purchased however it looks like new, I have checked the voltage at the switch which is showing 5.6volts (seems low) The wiring underneath to the step appears fine.
I’ve taken the step completely off and tried it directly to a battery and it works fine. Struggling to see a fuse for it on the elecroblok in the garage.

Has anyone got further ideas? Thanks.
