Okay, here's what happened. I have attempted to drive off with the electric hook up still attached.....the connecting wire came away and dislodged the connection to the vehicle. I know 'school boy' error. Thing is I am currently at Cherry Hinton campsite, it's the weekend and can't find anyone professional to come and help would anyone know where I can get help between here and Bedfordshire/Milton Keynes please. Thanks

Sorry IreneAnne Cherry Hinton is too far for me to help you.
I see its a CMC site, why not ask in the office is they have a spare EHU lead they can lend you, then get someone that Knows electrics to repair your damaged one when you get home.
I see you mentioned it was a "schoolboy error", should that not have been listed as a "Schoolgirl Error"?;):giggle:
Tip from a smart arse, Always walk arround the entire van, before pulling off, check all locker doors are locked, EHU cable, plus water hose stored away, and all roof lights are closed, plus the one I sometimes forget, make sure all sliding drawers are locked before the 1st roundabout!
Good Luck.

Sorry about your predicament. I assume that you have talked to the wardens? If not, that is your first port of call. Hopefully they will have seen it all before and be sympathetic! They may even have a phone number of someone.
Have you been able to disconnect, or are you still attached? If the cable has come away from your vehicle, carefully remove the other end from the post so that there is no live wire on the ground.
If you are on your own, search around the site for other motorhomers who look friendly to give you a bit of support. I know it’s too late/cold for people to be sitting out but in the morning maybe.
Good luck.

Has the wire snapped off and the connecting piece is lodged in the van then?

Hi Les
Yes, thanks for reply. Have done all the asking at site office for professional help, would you believe this they're all away on holiday, so inconsiderate eh! Forget how many more I rang, mostly every one else finish at 12 on a Saturday, and like yourself too far away for call out, hopefully nearer next destination we'll find someone, that will be Monday now.
School boy error cos hubby was spending far too much time chatting to the neighbours and was supposed to have disconnected leccy so I could go fill up with fresh water, do you think it was my fault....... as if...... so yes, this 'smart arse' too knows exactly what SHOULD be done thanks for the tip 👍

Quite a few of us have done it. You should keep your van unattached from the electricity until you've had it checked. Hopefully Funsters here will be able to locate someone near you.

You got of light compared to me, I reversed over my hooked up cable and it pulled all my electrics through the floor of an RV :D

Hi Riverbankannie
Cor yes a predicament, what. Thanks for reply.
Yes talked with wardens, phoned hundreds of professionals without any luck just now, most on holiday, others finished at midday Saturday, lastly some too far to travel. Oh well.
Not on my own but neither of us very technical etc. Everything is safe. No evidence wire is live or that any wire broken in connection socket on vehicle, just a very loose part that has been yanked from socket in my haste to fill up with fresh water without checking hubby had disconnected hook up.......
Tomorrow is another day and we have gas so not all lost yet. Hopefully en route next destination on Monday we will find someone to take a look.

Hi Gina
Thanks for responding.
No, both ends of cable are okay, well the long orange cable connector looks intact. The other end, in the vehicle is the loose part, can't get it pushed back into the fitting, no strength so don't know if any wire disconnected on the inside part?
I 'm sure that on Monday, en route next destination there will be a professional able to attend.

Hi Jim
Yes, everyone is being very helpful, plenty of tips and advice, thanks to all contributors. Cooking on gas too. So frustrating as it's not like we're new to this, we do know what we should be doing to stay safe etc, old age you see it don't come alone......

Hoping that now you have got it off your chest and had a giggle, you will have a good night’s sleep and put it in perspective.
Most of us have found this forum by needing help, and 99 % of the time that help has been found and freely given. Hope you stay with us and tell us more about your travels.
If you find a helpful professional do let us know.
If you do have a bit of a wobbly inlet connector, maybe tape it up somehow with gaffer tape (don’t tell me you travel without any) just to prevent more damage, before moving on.

How lovely!
I expect you're going to a 5* hotel with Michelin restaurant, spa and sauna for a few days whilst the m/h is being fixed.

Don't worry about it until you get home EHU is not essential, just regulate your power usage depending on the size of battery bank.

Being caravanner's before motorhome owner's we do know a little about what we are doing, Thing is, we have a solar panel but how do we get the power to work off that? We thought it would kick in automatically? But we don’t have any electrical power at all? Everything that can run on gas is running on gas central lighting, yes we have camping lights and we can run the vehicle to power the USB connectionf to power phones, WiFi unit and tablets so no real hardship, why does the fridge keep beeping sayjng it's not happy witn the connection, or? Why isn't there power left in the battery and why isn't the solar panel putting power into the battery?

Ah well, tomorrow hopefully we can get professional help, no real panic...?. Just frustrating not being able to work it out.

Thank you for your helpful info tips 😊.

IreneAnne. Sorry to read of your woes. :(
Can you put up a photo of the damaged equipment, to give us an idea of the extent of damage? It may just need reconnecting and resealing.

Good luck getting sorted. (y)

Jock. :)

You should be running the fridge on gas and everything else on 12v if you haven't got EHU, we rarely ever use EHU.
The solar will help to keep the battery topped up but at this time of year with only one battery you will be limited to a couple of nights.
Your mains sockets will only work on EHU unless you kit the van out with an inverter and large battery bank.

It sounds to me that the sudden disconnection, has caused power circuits to trip, and/or fuses to blow, but until we know the extent of the damage, it is hard to tell.

Jock. :)
