It's good to highlight these so people are aware - we've just returned from Portugal and saw these in the trees in both Portugal and Spain

Evil looking little blighters.
Even sharp gravel doesn't stop them.
Keep dogs well away.

There were squillions of their nests in the trees as we came through Spain this week, (from Pamplona to Morella)

In all the years I have lived here I have only ever seen one nest at a place we were working at. Even on my regular trips up to the dam & through the pine forests I've yet to see any.
I've seen them on the floor only once down in Vera.

Full Time 2011-2013, now part timers!

Yes, we just returned last week after a three month trip, and we remarked on how few there were - even in areas that were mothered out last year. Saw plenty in the trees as we travelled home, but luckily few around where we stayed. We wondered if the weather had kept them at bay in Andalusia? Too cold, too hot...?
