The rear view camera in my motorhome has started to give a “washed out” image on screen. On initial turn on it is OK but then gradually fades to look as though it is misty outside. No amount of fiddling with adjustments can improve the picture. The same effect is seen when switching to the close up, reversing lens.

This suggests to me that the fault is probably with the screen rather than with the cameras. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is or how to check it out more thoroughly?

Can you get to the camera input easily at the rear of the display unit?

If so, what I would do is buy a cheap camera from ebay/amazon with the same connection and try that in place of your existing camera and see if is the same, or if it is as it should be.

That will hopefully confirm the fault, my my money would be water in the camera, follow by water in the extension cable, rather that a fault with the screen

I have a spare camera you are welcome to try on your system if it is possible to get to the connections at the rear or at the vdu.
At least you will know where the problem lies.

Happy to help if I can👍

If its Dometic you can take it apart and clean the condensation/water off the lens

Thank you for the kind offer. I may well take you up on that. We are tied up for a couple of weeks but I will contact you then if that’s OK?

It could be the camera has an issue and the iris is opening up because it thinks it's dark... but it's just blinding itself.

Or it could be the screen is auto adjusting and whiting itself out.

Hi Stealaway, I have the same problem.. How do you get into the cam, I dont want to damage the case. TIA. David
It all screws together but you do need a set of different small screw drivers.
There are some photos on here of it coming apart

Had the same with mine and it was condensation inside on the lens. Took it apart cleaned it and put a thin bead of sealant around the 2 halves before it was screwed back together.
Result.all clear again. (y)

As the OP on this thread perhaps I should mention that, with the drier warmer weather, my picture is back to normal. I will try to get at the camera in order to separate the two halves and seal them but, at present, I am too busy soaking up the sun, (and wine), on our French tour.
