problem with new items flag on Media and Showcase? (1 Viewer)

ive noticed a few times that i will mark all Media items as viewed and then later the little flag will say theres un unviewed item. but when i go to look there are only items that i have viewed previously.
today the flag on Media says 6 items but when i look they are all items i have seen before.
strange
happens on PC, laptop ipad and iphone so not platform specific.

Someone adding a comment to a picture is enough to reinstate the 'New' flag. Could that be the reason?

But why do we how don't want to see other's media or showcase have to put up with the red flags, it's a pain in the a**s.

I can put up with the flags. But it is mildly annoying to click on them to find there's actually nothing new.

I have a [frustrating] flag over 'competitions' but when I click on the link... "There are currently no active competitions."

Any ideas on how to dismiss that flag?
