If yes this proves that personalised plates are great or not, depending on your view of public notoriety.

No sorry it wasn't me.
I once bought a big black Chrysler 300C (Gangster car) from the estate of a local mobster type
on private plates,and was told i would be waved at driving out the village,
More folk waved that didnt so I know what you mean about public notoriety.

It's probably worth mentioning that if a number plate is displayed wit incorrectly spaced letters or numbers, with bolt/screw heads positioned to appear to alter a number or letter it is an MOT failure. It is also illegal and can attract a £1000 fine and the DVLA are permitted to permanently withdraw that registration mark. See DVLA leaflet INFO104.

I think it's more to do that fact that we would have to replace our van with a more recent one to be able to use it
