good evening all
We have just got a camper. In the gas locker there is a pressure guage and pipes going out of it. These go into a conduit underneath across the van maybe to the heater. They dont appear to connect to the gas bottle. It all looks very elaborate and clean but quite a puzzlement!
Any help welcome
Thanks

If you can post a photo it may be clearer for someone to help..
My guess is the gauge may be the gas cylinder pressure/contents gauge...

Short of providing a photo we're guessing but are any pipes connected to the gas bottle?
A photo really is needed!

Indeed it is air-assist suspension. I don't have it but I believe it should not be left unpressurised due to possible damage to the inflatable suspension units. There's a useful thread here which should explain it more:

Indeed, looking at the manifold it may have been fitted by Watlings near St Albans (just speculative) but noting that the valves are in the "off" position it may well be that there is air in the system anyway. On my Pilote I kept it at about 2.5 bar pressure

We have had our air assist suspension looked at and it appears that the air bags are missing. Is it worth getting new ones installed (if they are available) or would it be simpler to fit more up to date springs? The van is 20 years old

7 years campers before that
if its been uprated by the fiting of air bags youll have to replace them if they were fitted just to make the ride better you could wait and see if you think you need them if you told us which van you have there may be others here with the same van who could offer you advice from what ive gathered on here re airbags mercs tend to need them as the chassis is narrow and can roll on bigger vans

Thanks, yes, we think that we'll use the van a bit and see how we get on. THere is only a few tubes, inlet valves and pressure guage left on the van. Its a VW Compass Calypso
