Looking for a powerbank to charge phones via usb, camera batteries (got usb chargers), laptop and hopefully run 12v tv (for wife). Do any funsters use a powerbank and in my ignorance wondered if there are any that i could recharge from 12v charger when driving?

Any recommendations please

I have one of these from Amazon. A tad heavy and can take a while to charge - not a problem if you do it overnight - but it’s good value and holds a lot of power. You can charge up to three devices from it simultaneously.

our power bank is our two leisure batteries and solar never needed anything else not sure where your powerbank need is coming from?why would you charge a powerbank rather than the items diect?

Want to keep hab bat for hab, have used powerbank to power camera when doing astrophotography but just saw a demo at manchester moho show that allowed upto 11 hrs of tv power and usb output unfortunately didnt take note of make.

The battery life on some of my kit - especially my iPhone - is poor. I take the power bank with me when I am out for the day to keep it charged up.

I've been using the Jumping Jack Superlight for a few years now. Brilliant bit of kit and it fits all your criteria. Small, lightweight, 240v and 12v in car lighter socket charging, USB and micro USB charging sockets etc

I’m another fan of Anker products. I have one of their powerbanks and it will charge my I Pad and I Phone and still have ‘juice’ in it.

Another vote for Anker power banks, we've got a couple. You can get some with 20Ah capacity for around £30. Recharge with a USB power supply from a cigar lighter socket if you don't have USB sockets in the MH. :)

We have a couple of portable power bank chargers from Amazon with 4 usb outputs to charge iPhones and a Tracer 8ah Lithium Polymer Battery pack that will power a tv if needed and with a USB adapter will charge phones for a week or more.

What are you going to use to charge up your power bank? None of them create energy they only store it. And your existing leisure batteries will do that for you and will store a lot more than a powerbank.

We use 12v directly from our leisure batteries for almost all of electrical needs in including TV, phones, ipad, laptop, shaver etc. And our batteries are recharged using solar, alternator and occasionally EHU.

I bought a power bank in France couple years ago, I haven’t used it much but it has been quite handy.
Takes a while to charge up-usb whilst driving & slow to charge iPhone or?

We do too but find that our gels are a bit heavy for when we have been remiss in not charging one of our portable devices prior to heading out. ? In these circumstances the power bank comes to the rescue.

My power bank uses 4 x 18650 batteries so they can be easily replaced.

For people that don't understand, they are for when you are away from the van for the day, like at the beach ⛱?

We have three power banks; an NRG, an iBox and a Belkin.

The Belkin is the oldest and is the only one of the three that will charge connected devices whilst also being charged itself. We find this a useful feature that is lacking from the other two we have.

Is my experience typical; do the majority of powerbanks preclude charging of the power bank while delivering a charge to connected devices?

I read the specification of the device Jim posted (and for an Anker device) and couldn’t tell if that feature was available or not.

I use an Anker Power Core and couldn’t answer your question as I didn’t know if mine would charge whilst charging.

It’s not something I’ve needed to do, or tried.... until 5 minutes ago and the answer is ‘no’. It stopped charging my GoPro battery when I connected it to power.

If you want a multi-use power bank, to take on a plane there is a limit of 26800 mAh (at 5V). For example the one in Jim's post is just at this maximum size.

I have this one too, and it has USB and USB-C outputs, and you can charge it by USB-C or standard micro-USB input. You can use a 12V USB charger like the one in Langtoftlad's post to charge it up.

Thanks for the info.

I go on motorcycle trips with limited luggage capacity. Often I‘ll be sharing a room and sometimes the rooms have only one or two electrical sockets so the ability to charge my power bank whilst also charging a Bluetooth headset and phone at the same time is a very useful feature. Consequently I was somewhat miffed when my new, Larger capacity, power bank didn’t offer me this feature.

Exactly that ??

My phone will easily last a day under normal use, but if I’m out on the water for the day, I usually have a safety gps tracker app running in the background which can be battery hungry, then chuck a few videos and photos in to the equation and my phone can be in need of a top up.

I carry an Anker Power Core at sea with me and have plenty of power to top my phone up, as well as my GoPro batteries. It’s never been tested to its limit yet, but it should last for 4 or 5 days paddling expedition, if I ever get round to buying a tent.

i understand that but the OP mentions running the tv from it so assumed he wasnt taking that for a day on the beach

If you are just charging phones and small USB devices the this is the way to go but I'd recommend checking which one will suit your phone as there are different quick charging protocols for Samsung's, oneplus, etc.

You might be thinking of something like a solar generator / power station. They seem to be getting quite popular as lithium tech & charging is getting more advanced.
Goal Zero do a range of sizes to suit your need and usually come with an inverter. (They also do a cheaper / heavier lead acid.) Ecoflow after a super fast charging power station. Hyundai had one at their trade stand (@ last Oct's show) but wasnt available until late 2020.
Theres also a bunch of chinese low cost ones too on Amazon but you might want to verify their quality before using one in your setup.

I've spent quite a while researching these before deciding not to go with it, but ask if you want to know more.

Power Banks are handy to take out if you have power hungry appliances, cameras etc.

You'd have issues carting your leisure battery around.. ?

I'm not going to lug one of my leisure batteries up a mountain to recharge my Satmap or phone.

We have one from the dreaded Ebay that has a solar charger on it and 2 usb ports for simultaneous charging and was about 15 quid. It has a brand name of x-Dragon (chinese rip off presumably)
It has 300,000 mAh s which sounds like a lot and comes with a compass that i am never likely to use.
Its smaller than my phone and recharges on the beach (It also has a torch function i wont ever use)
Had it a couple of years and still works

Just bought a jump starter and that will charge phones etc as well.

Cant see the point of a battery pack for the tv when a leisure battery does the job.
