I submitted my application to continue possession of C1 entitlement to DVLA on 18th April.
Today I received my new licence.
Great service BUT! I have ask. Why does my licence expire on 23rd April 2022?
If I was entitled to drive until the 3rd May (the day before my birthday) why does the new licence not commence on my birthday, the following day.

A word to the wise.

If you have to renew your entitlement wait until the last minute, (well, maybe two days before it expires)

That way, you'll get full value. You still maintain your entitlement regardless that your licence has expired.

No wonder they allow peeps to apply 4months in advance.

How much does it cost to renew?

Every time a C1 licence is mentioned in our house, smoke comes out of himselfs ears for exactly the same reason. This year he is having his medical a week before his licence is due for renewal in June. His birthday is 5th November, but we sent it in early last time not realising he would lose 4 months.

I've never understood why DVLA do this when I got to 45 I had to have a medical for HGV and PSV licence same as everyone does. You would assume you send them a medical + application and your licence runs from when the medical is required the 45th birthday for 5 years. Not in DVLA logic it doesn't I have 2 entitlements that expire 2 weeks before my next block of 5yrs start

I wonder is something has changed then in the last 2 years?

Just had a look at my licence as I had to get my first C1 renewal a couple of years ago and was in a similar position to you.
My 70th birthday was 1.5.2017
Applied to DVLA 8.3.2017
Licence issued 14.3.2017
Licence expires 30.4.2020

Of course being a conspiracy theorist, I know the real reason!!!
All this fannying about with B****t THEY have decided to cancel all the days on the calendar from 24th April 2022 until 3rd May 2022 and are keeping it quiet :whistle:

That sentence is only valid unless they have rejected the application before that date. It is also only applicable within the UK, it would not hold good outside the UK.

Any law applicable in a member country is applicable throughout the EU.

I appreciate it a different story in practice but, and its a big but, that is enshrined in EU law.

Its free.
(That is, if you don't include the medical for over 3.5tonners. That could cost between £50ish and £100ish)

I renewed mine in January prior to my 70'th in March but did not renew C1, mine runs until the day before my birthday in 2022, must be something to do with the medical.

I had medicals every 5 years from 45 until 65 and then every year for a couple of years but do not remember ever having a problem renewing early and maintaining renewal dates, possibly something has changed.

I applied 4 months in advance to try and meet my schedule, waste of time, send a covering letter they said, waste of time, did I meet my schedule,no, however, relative to the OP,s issue I gained time!
14/9/18 to 12/10/21
There’s no logic to what goes on with the system it’s not fit for purpose and need a complete overhaul.

Just renewed mine. HGV and PSV and for the first time the C1.
Always applied a month or so for renewal and always ends one day before my birthday, 21. May. Has done so since my first renewal at 45

Just because DVLA state that you can continue to use the licence(because they cannot process quick enough?) I am not sure it is enshrined in UK, and therefore EU Law. I woud not want to argue withGuardia Civilia.

They had some common sense this year with the drivers cpc. They realised that they could not do the volume of cards at once so they are issuing them early for people who have completed their cpc hours. So you end up with 5 years plus how many months early you are on your card.

Your licence is still valid if expired providing your application is in ,and is still on the register to be validated until the DVLA inform you and remove it ,by which time you would have being informed.I had to have a stress echo test two days before going to France for a months last year .The Hospital told me it takes longer for our results to reach theDVLA .When I arrived home my renewal was on the mat lol. The DVLA can grant you one to three years depending on your health .Thank god I got 3 years of peace lol.

I'm still waiting after 4 months. Some even longer.

I have just renewed mine 50 quid for the D4Driver medical. I am waiting for its return as it was a bit out of date. :D:D:D On a note my own doctor wanted 90 quid for the same medical :mad::mad:

only 90 my doctor £150 sent in early lost a month.such is life

Mines coming up for renewal again this year, doesn’t time fly. I might try doctors on wheels or similar this time, my doctor charged me £100.00 3 years ago and he didn’t really want to do it. Took him less than 10 mins.

I have to apply for the first time at the end of this year.
Is there a known reason why 1 person gets the licence within a few days
and someone is waiting four months.?

Also I have a good relationship with my Doctor and nothing on my record to be concerned about
so what is the average charge by Dr's

Last time I asked our dr it was £120 and they told you when they was going to do it not at a time of your choice.

applied 5/11/2018, 6 months later, still waiting, despite the fact that they told me that they had all the necessary paperwork on 15/1/2019

Time to fight the DVLA telephone system and jolly them up I think !
