All countries need tourists, wherever they come from or how they get there, but it's obvious that health and safety is always top priority, can you imagine how many airlines and ferry companies would be operating if no one came and went anywhere, I can't imagine the UK without the French in Primark and Tesco's, the Americans and Chinese visiting Cities and so on. 🙂

We live in a place that relies on tourism, July and August and the many bank holidays they have here it's full of Spanish, it's great for businesses and in our case holiday rentals, but a nightmare for locals, 😉 we prefer it when they are not here 😁 but its not so good for people that rely on customers to make ends meet, but its supply and demand they open or close, the same with any business............. but there is always someone that starts another 🙂 some successful some aren't. 🤔

I feel it will take time and will return, and although no one likes change, the UK won't be in the bad boys corner forever, 😲 it might depend on how much Boris gives away. 😁 Bob.

There was loads of chatter in the papers back in August ish that the EU were looking at 50 cases per 100,000 for travel between EU and from non EU countries based upon an average over 7 days.

Come January we are likely to be non EU country so if this is the case we need to be below 50. They need to drop to 50 and so do we.

We are currently floating just above 300 and descending and France is descending quite quickly as is Spain in the low 200s.

If the current trend (its not likely with Xmas mixing) were to continue then there would possibilities mid January.

There is a thread I update daily with the daily figures so trends can be seen (to the annoyance of some)

Infections trends are upwards and I can only see it getting worse because of Christmas and New Year celebrations. It will be easy to stop Brits travelling to the Continent because of the ditch between the two.

Just a thought

When we were on the brink of being stuck in Morocco this year it did occur to me that as some EU countries were closing their borders to non EU travellers that I was glad we were still in.

We got out through Ceuta on the last day it was open( and strictly only open to EU nationals)

UK travellers could be barred from entering the EU from 1 January as travel rules associated with being part of the EU expire and pandemic restrictions block entry.
Unrestricted travel to countries within the bloc will no longer automatically apply to UK residents from then.
This means entry into the EU would then be based on essential travel only.
Currently only countries with low coronavirus infection rates qualify for non-essential travel.

Looks like your wish will come true.
They've taken back control of their own borders.
