We are currently booked Plymouth - Santander - Plymouth from 10.04.2022 to 06.06.2022. Fingers crossed that things will have stabilised by then. Staying in Caceres over Holy Week and then heading South.
We would normally move every day or two using aires but fancy 5-6 days beside the sea in Portugal. We would be very grateful for any suggestions for a good, quiet site near to restaurants and shops either on the Algarve or North of Lisbon suitable for a few days. I don’t know the area well though have toured on a motorbike. I have searched on the Portugal page and have noted a few possibilities. I have also checked on the ACSI site but couldn’t find anything that stood out.
Many thanks.

Im not one for getting over excited about trips/days/excusrions etc but I honestly found this one the most interesting I have ever done

If you do decide on the escorted tour ( I would to see the best caves) then go early as you can
moving up the coast there are a few park ups suitable

Algarve, there are no sites or Aires right by the sea that I know of.
where I live, camping Alvor, is probably the closest, being a nice ten minute walk to the humongous beach, and a good town full of bars and restaurants. Not so much in the way of shops tho.

Nice Aire at Foz do Arelho North of Lisbon. Right on a sandy beach on a tidal lagoon which is protected from the heavy Atlantic breakers by a sandbar. Restaurants close by along with small shops. Try to arrive during the week, as it fills up at weekends with trippers from the Lisbon area if the weather forecast is good.

From the campsite at Figueira, you can turn right out of the gate, and walk down a track past a couple of smallholdings and a footpath onto a lovely secluded beach. No vehicular access so very quiet. About a 10 minute lovely walk from the site. The town itself has a couple of bars / places to eat.

From memory, about 12 Euros per night. EHU available, and brand new "pump and dump" facilities, although no toilets or showers.

Orbitur Sagres campsite is 20 to 30 minutes walk to town and 2 of the beautiful beaches and a 15 to 20 minute walk to another stunning beach which is down steep steps.

We have been to Armacao de Pera several times, site not illegal and often closed down aire. Lovely beaches about a 10 minute walk to the beach, brilliant beach restaurants, bars and a wonderful promenade. We first went for a few days and stayed for a few weeks, not got the new ACSI book yet but it is usually in there camping de Praia de Armacao, also love Alvor, 2 of our must return to places when we go to Portugal, might see you there as we will be there at the same time but not the same ferry.

Lots to see in the surrounding area ,Obidos,a walled town with Roman aquaduct,,Fatima ,a place pilgrimage but certainly different and both the latter have freebie Aires.

The camperstop at Tavira (well recommended) isn't exactly next to a beach but it's not that far and is very safe.

Motorhome park Falesia , short walk to beach and a 15 mile stretch from Olhos de Agua (or if the tides out from Albufeira) to Vilamoura. Walked it once took me about 4 hrs .
Very popular, both motorhome parks there have been full lately.
Of the 3 sites operated by this company, Falesia, Silves and Tavira, only Tavira has any spaces........3 out of 120.

Hi Chrisvh
I am also thinking of travelling to Portugal via Portsmouth - Santander but in early March. I wondered how you were getting on navigating entry requirements. I understand Spain accepts the NHS vaccination record and doesn't need any testing, simply completion of their Health Control Form. However according to HMG website Portugal requires negative Covid tests: Antigen within 48hrs of departure or PCR within 72hrs of departure. I presume they mean departure from Portsmouth. I had hoped not to have to rush through Spain. How are you planning to deal with this?

Hi Yorkcov,
The situation seems to be so fluid at present. Entry requirements are being amended most days. We have traveled a bit during the pandemic and have negotiated all requirements so far. Will look at what we need to do nearer the time and try and make sense of it.

Enjoy your trip. We were in Spain in November. Had a fantastic time. People were very friendly and we felt safe.

Is the Aire still closed at Alvor by the swimming pool?

Yes. A couple of Brit vans removed the barriers and parked there only this week, shortly followed by another dozen or so, then the GNR turned up and turfed them all off😜

Ha ha do they still park in the pines?

Why is it always the GNR and not the local police that turf you off?

There arent ‘local police’ here, You may be confusing it with the Spanish police, who have both local and national police.
Here, it’s mainly GNR throughout the country, and PSP in big cities and airports etc.
But they all got guns, so do as they say🤣🤣🤣

Another vote for Foz D'arelho, but Manta rota is pretty good.

We loved our stop at vagueira ( Aveiro) beach just over dunes and boardwalk into town and really friendly.
