if any of you lovely funsters are bored could you help please. We are getting into Portsmouth at about 3-4 this afternoon/Friday. Internet on ferry is terrible as you can imagine. We are happy to travel miles out of our way to be on slightly better roads. We can't get into the AA websites at all. I vaguely thought about Portsmouth towards Southampton and then North past Winchester on A34 to pick up the A303 and then Wedt to Yeovil. I know routes I normally do towards Dorchester or up to Blandford were blocked yesterday.
Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

The local news this morning showed the A303 blocked at Chicklade/Mere due to snow and traffic with drivers stuck in cars/lorries overnight.

A34 was bad yesterday and closed from Tothill to Newbury due to serious weather related accidents sadly including a fatality, haven't been on it today but the roads around Whitchurch were icy this morning.

Weather forecast is for more snow in the Hampshire area, possibly heavy. Wind currently quite strong with lots of drifting snow

Here's a couple of screen shots of the current AA map, it looks like the only major road closure is the A30 at Henstridge
The red lines are slow traffic.

Hi, unless you need to get to Sherborne urgently why not find a stopover
at least for today . It will give you time to form a plan .
Just an idea
Best of luck whatever you decide

Dorset Police, Dorset county council and Poole borough council are saying do not travel unless your journey is due to a threat to life. The snow has ice over the top of it - A31, A35 are both closed in places and where they are open it’s like an ice rink with abandoned vehicles as obstacles.

We are wimps so are now booked into the premier inn near the ferry! Thank you everyone. I texted a friend who lives locally and he said that the local roads are passable just about in a 4*4 and he has one so advised us to not try it. Quite relieved as ferry is delayed and we are going to have to dig our was into our drive, wouldn't be much fun in the middle of the night!

I drove home from Sherborne to the New Forest last night and whilst the A303 was clear it was starting to get slippery, I was driving my Land Rover and glad that I was.

The route you have suggested would be your best bet but I think if possible I would hang-fire for 24 hrs.

had I known I could have got you to dig out my drive, you would have passed it if you were at the Girls School! We are booked into the Premier Inn now as the ferry is delayed.

I did mine with my Stihl Back-Pack Leaf Blower and whilst it was effective and probably less strenuous it took just as long as if I'd used a snow-bladed shovel.
