Bummer! Too much to hope that it.might have just been sold to someone else who's going to continue to run it as an Aire, rather than to a property developer for building yuppie flats?

The loss of that Aire is likely to lead to others being even more congested I imagine.

I understand the plans have been seen and feature a lake with flats etc around it.

I agree the position isn't as nice, but its only a short walk into Lagos town, which I think has a lot more going for it than the Portimao area. Sad to see any of them go though.

Another sign of Portugal starting to pick up a bit, a few years ago no one was buying land. We have noted that more businesses are opening or expanding and that more Portuguese are taking out of season holidays. May be tough for us in some cases but good for our hosts over all

Shame, my first experience of Portugal was there a couple of years ago. Met some real characters in the bar/tent.

This is no way meant as anything other than confirmation of the above info. I posed this on the 'Portugal' thread of Continental Touring.

"This is your inaction reporter, reporting nearly live from Silves having just returned from a day out in Portimao.

I'm sorry to report that as of today, the Portimao Marina Aire is no longer open for new arrivees.
The Aire itself will close and be empty in a week on the 8th December. Me and SWMBO had a lovely meal at the bar at lunchtime where we were told by the prop.(sorry, didn't get the name) that the bar will be closed as from tonight. We actually witnessed new arrivals being turned away and we saw several 'vans leave as we were enjoying our meal."

I too had some memorable times in that little bar and with my old lady and some fine Funsters. The locals were fine too.

Bummer, we're on the ferry as I type heading to Santander. BUGGER, love the marina site. Hey ho back to the drawing board.

We left the Portimao aire sadly which we thought was ideally located, it was indeed a very special place, It was more than just an aire it was a community of like minded folk of all nationalities who enjoyed the freedom that a Motorhome gives you !

We shall miss the many folk that we have met there and the friends that we have made along the way ... also all the management and staff who looked after us whilst there , you shall be very sadly missed ...

We are now at the newly done aire at Silves , next to the Burger Ranch which has been greatly improved and has been very welcoming...
But .....we are missing the gang

On the surface its the loss of a Cheap Parking Place for motorhomers ( Others are available) however this shows an upward movement in confidence in a country that's has been seeing bad times for too long.
