Ive been having a discussion with Popit over the 100 Gb data sim card I am using here in Spain. They have informed me I have to use this sim card in both the UK and the E.U. for it to be ok for use in the E.U. I did activate the card in the UK and used it for 24 hrs before flying out so met there toc but they will not tell me what the minimum time of use in the UK is when asked and said this morning they are introducing a new E.U. data roaming sim only package shortly for customers who only want data usage in the E.U. No doubt at an increased cost.
I have copies of transcripts and emails from Popit where trhey contradict themselves on this issue so be aware and enjoy it while you can.

I suppose its inevitable. They use a 3rd party network carrier and they all seem to be increasing their EU roaming prices.

I am not surprised as they currently offer the facility to freeze the card when you are not using it so if folk use in in Spain etc for 2 or 3 months and then freeze it when they get back to the UK I can't see the network provider being very happy.

Yes Martin, for £1.00 per month. However, after logging into Popit this morning I could not find the option of cancelling or suspending my account. The only option available was to change the package. I had to email them again to cancel my account. I will post the transcript and email messages I had with them later (got to pop out) to show them contradicting themselves and misleading customers. Its a bit of much to say the least.

When I spoke with Popit just before Xmas about freezing the account they said that they will either freeze or un-freeze your sim via the online chat at present and in the near future you will be able to do this yourself as and when you require via the phone app or your on-line account page.

I have just suspended mine but had to do it through the online chat tool on popit which actually was easier than emailing them.

Was planning to get one for our next trip which will be either March or April, will have to see how things go could end up getting a local sim if they make it awkward.

I have been using mine in Spain for the last three weeks without any issues. Set mine up in the UK before travelling. No emails etc from Popit. They did state that any unused data would e carried forward to next month ONLY.

That's a new one on me, are you sure that's the case?
It states NO data rollover on their website.

I was thinking of getting a Popit sim but may go the Free fr mobile route , they do 210gb for 19.99€ plus 10€ for sim. Only extra would be a vpn for streaming

Depends on where we end up I used reglo in France last time, worked well & their 5gb roaming limit, used 10gb before I ran out of data in Belgium, Holland & UK. Used NoS before in Portugal that worked well but no roaming.

I guess it was inevitable.... I've resigned myself to the 5gb Giffgaff on the Mifi and 15gb on the Phone .....for streaming cycling....then use the old fashioned Sat Dish....lol

Probably just France, what sort of deals do Reglo do?

I think it was €60GB & €15 for 100GB plus €5 for the sim, You need to pay for them & get them initialised at the customer services counter doesn't work online. They accept an Aire for an address.

Found the info, for €15 you now get 120gb & they now have 150gb for €20.

I bought a sim card just before christmas but we cancelled our trip trying to cancel is NOT easy, I filled in their online form that didnt work according to my credit card, No phone number or email address, I did talk to them on their caht line today and they say they will re credit. I photographed their conformation, if I dont get the refund I will have to do a charge back with the credit card company

I have been using the Tiekom 300gb sim and it costs approx £34 per month they will freeze sim when not required €3 pm it’s with Vodafone.sp has been working well however we have had poor band with at Tarifa? I don’t think the Vodafone signal was very strong there so I had a Three internet with legs for reserve sim, that worked fine😊
now at El Rocio and Tiekom sim working well again😊👍

Having time on my hands I thought I would post the email I received from popit about these restrictions.

I did activate this sim in the UK before departing and Popit have twice refused to tell me what the minimum time of useage in the UK is before using in the E.U.

Hi Philip, in basic terms our sims are not to be used a EU only sims. Roam Like At Home is you use the sim as a uk sim and only when away use this for data.

I would suggest you keep a small plan with popit if you are to use this every time you go away and change to the 1gb package using data now and again from your dual sim phone and call out from it when you dont want to disclose your real number. Then swap package back to the larger package as you require.

We are doing more training in house for our support staff as. We have seem on forums not us refer to our service as EU Roaming and nothing more. We have the advantage of offering roaming to the full extent of the allowance but you must use our service in the UK as well.

Hope this makes sense.

I have had further dialogue with Popit via email as I want to do up to 90 days data roaming in the E.U. without any restriction.
Below is the email response to my question on this issue and asking for more detail of there rules to allow this to happen.

Hi Philip,

Thank you for your email, this sound brilliant although we do require at least 14 days of UK usage either before, after or in-between roaming. Other then that all is good and you are good to go :)

Kind Regards
Matt

From: Philip Tew Phone: Subject: E.U. Roaming Message:
Hello, I note you say data roaming in the E.U. can be for up to 180 days! I am planning to visit the E.U. End of April for up to 90 days and would like to use your sim card for data roaming in the E.U. with the 100GB option. My intent is to purchase the Sim card and activate it one week before departing the UK , use it for data roaming in the E.U. and then close my account at or around 90 days afterwards. Is this allowable and if not what are my options for data roaming in the E.U. for this period of time.
Regards, Philip

BYW and further to the above. Their app does not work and is currently being worked on to correct. Also, their main website is also having some improvements made so customers can cancel their contracts from their own account page as apposed to contacting them by chat or email. When all is done, this presently will still be one of the best E.U. data roaming sim card options from the UK IMO. All we need now is more and more competition and more and more customer needs focus.

This looks like a good offer. Is it a monthly contract that can be cancelled at any time and can the sim card be ordered from and activated in the UK ??
yes you can cancel at any time and tge sim card can be 8rded and sent to a UK address. it can also be activated in the uk, first you must set up an account on reglomobile.fr

I found the only way of getting a Reglo sim working was by getting E. LeClerc customer services to to it.
I setup an account and registered the sim it just wouldn't work.

I did ours on line in France last year, I did borrow a French phone as they need to send an activation text, and I was putting the sim card into a portable mifi since then I have had no issues, in France, Spain, Jersey and UK

I’ve just returned from Spain - like you Iactivated and used it for a day before a months EU trip during which I’ve used most of my 100g’s with out issue - have now put the Sim on pause for £1/month via the chat line till I reactivate it!

I have ditched them, speeds were throttled back once abroad.
