Poland (1 Viewer)

Plans now afoot to head off to Poland and on to Vilnius in Aug/Sep. Seem to be plenty of Camperstops and ACSI sites enroute, but I’m still a bit confused about the ViaToll system for toll roads.

I’ve had a look at the website and downloaded the app. Should I be trying to register the van, which is over 3.5 tons before heading off or visit one of the service centres when on the way, register and collect the viatoll box? There seems to be lots of them and one just after the border from Frankfurt.

Its easy to pick up the Via tag , as you go into Poland , you have to pay min of 120pzl and you get it back when you return the box before you leave . It doesnt take long . If you are going to return to Poland on regular basis then you can hang on to it . They even do a topup app now I believe , Broken Link Removed I stopped at the border and they told me nearest pick up point . It was about 5 mile IIRC

We are planing to go over at the end of April for 5-7 weeks and would still like to hear people’s experience’s.

Searching for campsites doesn’t come up with many, and people have mentioned wildcamping is easy, what sort of places do you wild camp at...? In towns/villages or out in the sticks..?

If you have read through the thread you will have picked up that we live there.

Not sure about towns but most villages probably have bits of land/verges between houses as they are quite spread out, but we prefer lakes/resevoirs or forests. There are many parking areas for leisure activities and are free of restrictions, except maybe round the ski-lifts etc. which are also busy in summer with walkers. Very little of the countryside has fences, except private gardens, so pulling off the road is quite easy.

If you are going anywhere near us in Katowice give us a bit of warning so if we are here you could dump grey/black have a water-fill and EHU in our yard. We are about 4km S. of the A4. There is also a campsite quite near but I do not know the opening dates.

Do you have the details of this Stellplatz? Google can't find anything with this name - we're looking for somewhere nice to stay in Leipzig this spring. Currently looking at the Stadthafen (city harbour).

What an interesting thread this is, especially as I’m off to Poland in September on a tour with Crossings tours.

(We had planned France in May but I’ve got nervous around post B problems, particularly as whenever I’ve gone to France there has always been either a fuel strike, lorry blockades etc..so have ditched that idea)

If I may ask a couple of questions about Poland:

1)I normally like to at least try to converse in the local language of whatever country I’m visiting and usually just get a free app but am struggling to find a Polish one. Is it worth trying to learn the language or would I be OK in English/French/German?

2) any recommendations for Polish foods to have? Or more especially to avoid (French anduilette comes to mind!)

3) is LPG fairly easily available for Gaslow, and will the normal European adapter range be ok or do they have a special one?

Super excited about the trip, the country looks fabulous and any Poles I’ve met have always been really nice.

On our brief visit in 2017 we managed fine with a combination of German and English, though like you I like try at least a few words of the local language. Most young people we talked to spoke very good English, but they were always happy to try to teach us a few words of Polish

I've found Google translate works well for most languages

We didnt wild camp. We have lost lots of our pictures. It is a fantastic friendly country and English was widly spoken.
LPG was available everywhere

Sorry got my lines crossed City Motel stellplatze is in Soest
The stellplatze I used in Leipzig was just off B2 near Markkleeburg , and its since closed which is a pity as it was in a wooded area , and adjacent a train stop .
This is not far , no firsthand knowledge tho

Just to add to 'billym's reply.

The gaslow filling adapter needed is the same 'dish' one used in France and Germany that takes the expanding-claw pump nozzle.

We went last November, a great trip, no planning, went via Berlin, a great city to explore on your bikes, so were the polish cities. Just go and do a day at a time, and loads of places to park up on either Campercontact or park4night.
