Hi all,

We have a 120 watt solar panel and during this trip to southern Spain have been getting topped fully up daily from the sun and our driving every few days. We therefore have not really needed hookup :). While stopped at a site near Calpe the guy running the site asked if we needed leccy and we confidently said no. He stated that you should really plug in every few days to maintain the battery.

Is this the case? Or was he just trying to sell leccy?

Cheers all.

If you're confident that the battery is getting a good charge I can't see that the hook up would make a difference. Electricity is electricity.

He's just trying to sell you electricity. But remember, as far as solar panels are concerned at this time of year even in full sunshine you'll only get max 6 hours of worthwhile charging. As long as you've got sufficient wattage input then that's fine but do keep an eye on the voltage, as Stealaway says.

We're currently on a site near Valencia, have a 100w solar panel, and are experiencing wall-to-wall sunshine. However we've taken hookup because it's included in the site fees - wouldn't normally but it's still cold at night so it saves on gas.

Ours has been plugged in for approximately 4 days in total in the last year. The batteries are fine.
