we had one like that until pin got stuck and plug came off so just took pin out and use it without.😊

Positive location....🤣 love it...for plugging in the dark?!🤣
Plugging is an anagram of puggling, so time for the cotton buds ...

Back on topic; the loop/hook possibly dates back to the time when it was attached to a short length of chain that could be attached to the tap or similar to avoid losing the plug or the chain. The cheap [alleged] chrome soon shows its shortcomings, and after about 3 days, you have a rust coloured 'necklace' imprint on the bathroom sink, not dissimilar to those tool outlines that you have in the workshop ... So don't clean off the rust; use it as a template to align the chain perfectly ... (y) :giggle:

The detent near the bottom means it'll sit in the plughole in a raised position and still let water out. We use the plug like this in our bathroom.

But for the kitchen sink, it's a pain. If you put anything in the sink, it inevitably knocks the plug closed. So we put the plug in the plug in the tray that holds the dish cloth and scrubber.
