Waste pipe from bathroom washbasin has popped off but bizarrely now appears to be too short to reach the outlet. Can convoluted pipes shrink? This happened suddenly whilst out camping last week, small flood caused.

Presumably I must replace it down to the waste tank – a fiddly job in a confined space.

Or could I somehow bodge an extension to make my pipe 5 cm longer and hold firm with jubilee clips.

But convoluted pipe confuses me. How do I know if this is 19mm or 20mm? have seen both on internet and both described as ¾ inch. This is a SWIFT Besseccar from 2014 (British?) so what would the pipe likely be?

If it used to reach okay, then it can’t have shrunk. If you undo those two clips, there is a chance you can stretch it back into place, then fix it on with a jubilee clip, before refixing the clips. Worth a try before replacing.

I reckon they fitted the pipe too short and just about stretched it to meet the lip… only just.

If it cant be stretched without too much pain, I’d be inclined to fit a straight extension piece from the sink waste and jubilee clip the flexible hose to it, but it will need some bodging and checking diameters with calipers.

yes - thats what i thought but its definitely 4 cm too short now. they must have had it stretched on tight. good advice about the clips will give it a go...as you can see, its a tight space though!
