I do, depending on who is on my course use RTFM on ATV courses. Itā€™s a bit rude but it does make them remember.

I copied it from another thread thinking it meant 'Read The Frigging Manual' then posted it when a newbie asked a question about his motorhome and got banned by Jim. Now I'm just a lurker with a dim view of Motorhome Fun.
Yes I remember that, thought it was a bit harsh.

My take on it is before I joined this forum Iā€™d never been on another forum so didnā€™t know the etiquette and was a bit daunted by it all .what I would say is quite a few a re ready to shoot you down in flames for quite trivial posts that are not trivial to the new member ,now Iā€™m more thick skinned to say the least
I newly joined a different forum with a different type of vehicle, and answered a question in good faith but failed to notice that the thread was ancient. Got a few smart alec comments so just left that forum, whoā€™d want to engage with people like that? . Mohofun members however has been so helpful technically and I guess it doesnt really matter if a question gets asked again, theres always loads of answers!

It is easy for those who have been there seen it done it, but if someone genuinely doesnā€™t know the answer a dismissive attitude may well stop them posting. Been motor homing for over 40 years, repairing them nearly as long, still learning. Not afraid to ask for help and advice if the best you can reply with is negative comments might be helpful not to.

Always remember, the ONLY stupid question is the one you didnā€™t ask.

Hate it when people tell someone their post is a repeat... as though we have time to check everything we post is original.

I always want to hug the person being told off.... then they'd never post again anyway.. chased by an ol mad woman. :)
You mean new threads that are repeat queries - by old & new members?
Or posters repeating stuff where they can't of read much or any of the thread before posting?

It varies, but definitely the 1st scenario shouldn't be getting any negativity.
But imo it's harder to not be disappointed if a post in a thread with the same details are ignored before the new repeat of the same info.

Please don't answer questions with things like

This has been done to death
You're the 10th Person to ask this week
Use the search and you'll find loads of ...
Google is your friend.

The person who has plucked up the courage to ask the question, will feel like they have just wasted your time, they'll feel bad, and it certainly puts people off posting.

You shouldn't care if the question has been asked 500 times before, it should still be answered like it's the first time you've seen it. Some people take ages to pluck up the courage to post here and when they finally do, some of those go on to be prolific posters and can become virtual and real fiends. I count people as good friends now who certainly would never have joined this place if people were thoughtlessly rude to them on their first few days here.

If you can't be bothered to come up with a friendly welcoming answer, please don't bother responding at all, someone else will.

Hello, we have discussed this a lot recently, take a look here, That should answer your question, if it doesn't, pop back here and ask away. (y)
Hear, hear, Jim

Recently we've had responses like

Then, after a newbie asked a detailed question, a long standing member responding with

RTFM

Last week a response to a new members first question was

Not again!

Those responses are totally lacking in any empathy and certainly not the friendly helpfulness that the forum was founded upon.
Indeed, they are worthy of a 'Facts' response.... those who know to which I refer I am sure you will agree !

Click "Quote" at the bottom right-hand corner of the post you wish to quote and it opens in the box below.
To add a "Like" \ etc hover over the "Like" to the left of the "Quote" and select the comment you want to make.

I am the said culprit you are referring too. I copied the acronym from another post and used it when said newbie asked a question about his/her new M'home. It cost me a month in Coventry. Do I regret it ? :dance2::dance2::dance2:

What was that 'game' we used to play where instead of a common phrase etc you used to have letters/numbers intead and had to work out what it was, eg:

Thanks Gellyneck and Janine . Like pampam always looking to learn. My attempts at using these forum attributes have been hit and miss and I have tended to avoid them. By the way there are two quote options - what is difference? Finally how did Gellyneck draw a blue circle round right hand corner ?

The "+Quote" means you can select multiple responses to include in your reply.

As for the blue circle that's a trade secret so send copious quantities of cash or beer! ;)
Simply a print screen and add the circle in picture editing software.

Thanks Gellyneck .The creation of the blue circle shall remain cemented in mystery for those of us not privy to picture editing software. ;)
Iā€™m sure thereā€™d be an android equivalent but apple has simple tools built in.
