I heard Scotland are going to drive on the right! 😀
I wish we would ....its bloody stupid thst we are the only country in europe to drive on the left and have rhd cars . Lots of benefits of being the same. Not many of being different. Rhd vehicles worth less throughout europe.....i could have sold my frankia for more in spain or Portugal than i got in uk and ive had a few people express interest in my hymer here in greece till they realise its rhd.

Can't part exchange them in europe either

I'm a newbie
I don’t think I will be worrying to much about numberplates I have been going to the EU since 78 car and bike and never had a sticker of any kind. Most of my bikes had a wee dinky numberplate and I have been stopped quite a few times in fact I was escorted to cash machine once so I could give some German police some euros however never for a numberplate without a sticker. I have the same attitude going to the EU as our EU pals have come over to the UK.

All derived from horses and some European countries like spain originally drived on the left ! However it would have been easier for all the world to adopt same principle.

I heard, the last time this was mooted, that they were considering coach's and HGVs would drive on the right on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays while cars and motorbike would drive on the right on the other days until drivers git used to the new rules.

Until 5am on the 3rd of September 1967 Sweden drove on the left.
From then on the law was changed and they drove on the right.

Last time I was there most roads were too narrow to have a right and left side.
You must be about 400 years old then

How on earth would that work

It was a joke .... But the bit about Sweden wasn't.
I did wonder but then nothing would surprise me with uk hairbrained ideas these days lol

I think the biggest issue would be that changing which side we drove on would mean all new cars would have to be LHD which would then create issues with all the current vehicle's.

The main difference, compared to the UK, was that Sweden used to drive on the left but had Left Hand Drive vehicles - hence the rationale for changing which side of the road they drive to the right (in line with most of mainland Europe)

I'm resurrecting this thread for anyone that missed it last time. Spot the difference. One is acceptable in the EU, the other is not.

I wouldn't object if the UK changed to driving on the right. I suppose the Irish might have other ideas.

As was pointed out earlier, Sweden is one example of a successful changeover. Another example is Nigeria. If the Nigerians can manage that changeover, with minimum carnage, so can the Brits.

Anyhow I still have a spare GB sticker left over from the old days when car insurers gave you free stickers with the Green Card. I will put one on the back of the van. I also have a ( F ) sticker. That should confuse the Gendarmes. :france:

No they'd just use TFL's rules & charge £100/day to use a rhd one or you buy new:giggle:

Acceptable in SOME of the EU.
If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a GB sticker no matter what is on your number plate.
