Hi carl. We stayed at Finkle Abbey in early May. The site was small average price, level pitches and very clean facilities. The hosts were very helpful. Close to Durham if you cycle that would be easy. Good walks along the Wear and the Abbey was a joy to walk around.

We have also visited the Caravan Club site at Seaton delaval just north of Whitley Bay. The view over St Mary's lighthouse on a nice Day is to die for. Obviously you have to be a member and they have an 8m limit, which excludes us.

Enjoy::bigsmile:

Wow, while newbies and live in Glasgow, no way are we going to europe this year. Why when all these posts are there with grt sites. Thought I had visited most of scotland but now with van much more to see! Agree though midges are nasty, once had to de-camp at 3am with two dogs wimpering in pain from Argyle. Rear window black with them as we drove away at 60mph with car windows open!

Yes midges can be a nightmare, we dont get them here on the east coast of Scotland. Avon's skin so soft usually works.

There are a couple of good sites here in North Berwick, Tantallon Caravan park overlooks the Forth, a 10 min walk down into NB and only a few minutes from Tesco's. Also the caravan club site - Yellowcraigs - almost on the beach on the west side of NB. We also have a popular wild camping spot near the Glen golf course - again overlooking the beach.

There are also a great range of restaurants in NB, italian, chinese, indian, 2 chippies, a great steak house...... :Smile:

If you are heading down the east coast can recommend lots of little fishing villages/small towns.

Most have free parking and several have good places for eating

Lossiemouth - good harbour and places to eat
Findochty - lovely campsite by the harbour with good pubs nearby
Portsoy - again good harbour and places to eat, campsite there
Cullen - quaint and cute
Portgordon - stop at the ice house to look at the seals
Banff - free parking at the links overlooking a beautiful beach and a campsite

There is another good campsite at Strathlene just outside of Buckie, opposite a beach and a cafe which is a tad pricey but does good food. Give us a toot if you go through Portgordon, we are on the main road with a chausson parked outside on the road

east side doesn't suffer from midges the way the west does

Wherever you end up enjoy your trip
