Hi All
We have a Pioneer radio fitted in MH (see photo).
The issue is that when we turn the Aux for the van on the radio comes on which is obviously being fed by the leisure battery. This is ok when we are plugged in on site as I just mute it and turn display off.
I didn’t get a manual for the radio when we picked up the van but I have managed to sort most things Bluetooth etc but I cannot turn the thing off!
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

We had a problem with ours when we turned our media centre on it also turned the pioneer head unit on .

Even if you turned the power off to the head unit it was still drawing power from the engine battery quite a few carthago owners had flat engine batteries

We had a kill switch fitted to the head unit problem solved

Our problem is that it’s drawing power from the leisure battery when the engines not running and keys are out of the ignition.
Surely there has to be an on/off switch?

My guess is the top left button and hold for a few seconds. That is what I do with my Kenwood. Or maybe the middle left green one and hold. It is usually a button held down for a while, so try them all one by one. If you know the model number you will probably be able to find a manual on line.

Our pioneer looks slightly different to yours and has a removable control panel, when panel removed power is automatically turned off as I said it does look slightly different so may not be much use to you, sorry!

There is a off switch but even with the unit switch off it was still drawing power that’s why we had to fit a kill switch

I agree if you remove the buttons panel on some units it kills all the power

Thanks I’ll give it a go!
What’s wrong with a simple knob? Please don’t respond to that!?

Cant quite read the model number but looks a bit like AVH X2700BT

If so try here:

Thanks yes that’s the correct one but I’ve tried these already it says there is an installation manual and a user manual but they are both installation manuals!

Looks like I need to fit a kill switch then as nothing else seems to be working! Hard to believe there’s no on/off!
These Kill switches are they easy to fit? Thanks

On my Pioneer you press and hold the green button with the four squares on it to power off. If you give it a short push it has other functions.

Not sure if it’s easy reliance fitted ours when they did some other work for us quite a few people had them fitted on the carthago owners club , some even had them rewired so they ran off the leisure batterIes only to stop the engine battery going flat

im sure someone will have a guide

Tried that with no joy I’m afraid. Thanks though?

My Pioneer unit (much older AVH 3200DVD) has no off switch. The best I can do is hold the SRC button for a couple of seconds and then select Source Off which puts it in standby using very little juice. A kill switch would reset everything which may or may not be an issue for you.

To be honest we wouldn’t use the radio unless driving so I guess I could disconnect it from the leisure battery?

kill switch

We have a Pioneer AVIC F88DAB and also went for a rocker switch to kill power supply, not aware of settings being lost.

You’re quite right, my bad. If the kill is only on the switched live then settings will be kept by permanent live. My Rapido CBE panel has just such a switch.

It was fitted by either a lazy idiot, or someone incompetent.

Designed for a car, the radio would have a memory (standby mode) that is always ‘live’ and a ‘function’ mode which come on when the ignition is on.

A simple On/Off rocker switch in the ignition feed cures the problem, and should have been fitted originally.

I assumed it was fitted by Fiat but I’m no expert on these things!
Would this be a simple On/Off rocker switch that’s simple to fit or difficult to fit?? Thanks for the info.

No and Fiat fitted equipment would start and stop with the ignition on/off

I'll be honest we have fitted hundreds of Pioneer head units in the past, gave up Navigation installations about two years ago, and for the life of me can't remember if the ignition wire is red or yellow, one is permanent and one ignition, lets just say it is yellow, simply add a on/off switch in line and your problems will be over, as the way it is installed both yellow and red are 12 volt all the time
