Thinking of upgrading my system to the New Pioneer Multi Media Head Unit, I would be very interested to know if anyone has experience of the built in Sat-Nav, ease of use, routing, it accepts the Vehicle Dimensions etc.
Thanks

My first question when considering a satnav as part of an entertainment system would be 'are updates readily available and what to they cost'. My very limited experience with our Smart car (branded) system suggests the answer might be never and don't know.

More than toes wet now!
As above. If it comes with free lifetime updates and these can be easily loaded, OK, otherwise best with a standalone navigation system.

Apple Carplay all the way! I love the system. I would not buy another vehicle or camper for myself unless I could have it. Spotify, Music, Nav, Phone, all through one screen.

Tugger now Motorhome
Although they often look very pretty I have found the routing algorithms and especially traffic/speed cameras alerts of stand alone TomTom/Garmin units and some Smartphone Apps to be vastly superior.

We’ve got a Pioneer truck and camper unit in the van.

It’s great. It beats TomTom and Garmin hands down on any possible measure as far as I’m concerned. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Updates are simple enough.

The only navigation platform I’ve come across that’s better is Google Maps even then it’s close.

Does it have traffic and speed cameras included?

I’ve got the earlier Pioneer with AVIC add one. It’s quite good but updates cost in the region of £72, some roads in Spain still show me being in a field which is nit good. On balance I wouldn’t go to the expense again as I find Sygic on mobile to be very good and a lot less expensive, son uses Google Maps in preference to the sat nav built in to his top of the range BMW, says it all really about built in ones.

I’ve currently got a Blaupunkt that’s got an issue so it has to be replaced with a Head Unit as it does so much more than Sat - Nav, TV Sound System,Reverse Camera etc etc, it uses Naviextras Sat which has been quite brilliant, I have TomTom Truck as a back up but prefer the instructions via the Head Unit.
The feedback by Jezport and Xabia are encouraging and I’ll check out the update costs.
Do you know the source of the SatNav Sorftware in the Pioneer?

Thanks to everyone for the responses.

Yes mine does. About 3 or 4 years old and still working so I’m assuming it’s not subscription based as I’ve never signed up to anything (y)

I have the AVIC-F160-2 as this was standard in my Rapido 10000 when i brought it last year, i did update it once but found the satnav quite slow to calculate and respond compared to my tomtom truck 6000. I am told it is a lot better but not really played with it to be honest, it would be good to know if the unit mentioned in this post is similar? mine seems to be with a AVH-X3800DAB head unit.

Since Nov 2010 after 25 yrs under canvas.
Just bought one in France a few weeks ago. The same model but without DAB. Our Blaupunkt New York died (a long story) so it was a panic purchase. The system is excellent , far far better than the Blaupunkt in every way. On my way home next week I am taking it to some specialists to wire it properly as I did most of it in a car park. There is a botched wire fèed to the hand brake. It will not work unless connected to the hand brake. I have not worked out how to connect the reversing camera, but am sure there is a way.

I would recommend it !
