Hi guys, I am looking for some opinions. We have a 2011 pilote which has scault electrics, 2x90 amp batteries and is plugged into the mains at home.
I nipped in earlier to drain the hot water and tanks etc and noticed on the NASA unit that with lights on the batteries were discharging at 5 amps and nominally showed 12.2v or 51% on the nasa unit. Given i am plugged in I expected more like 13.4 v. I ran the engine and the batteries were taking 13 amps.

If the charger has packed in or a fuse blown its not quite as easy to tell because we have 280 watt of solar.

I have seen something similar on a Hymer where it cycles the batteries and you have to flatten them to get t to charge. Any views?

a good chance thats the problem.

could also be your h/u lead is damaged....do the 230v appliances work when plugged in ?

you could check if its charging on h/u at night when the solar is idle :thumb:

Battery

Hi john, i have a test plug thats lit up on all three lights so mains lve and cable ok. The manual suggests that 12 v is ok when the the charger detects standby mut i still thought the transfrmer would drive the lights when plugged in.

yes it should....the charger will act as a power supply as well as a battery charger.

my kontiki had a three way switch....charge leisure battery or charge engine battery or power 12v without charging either batteries
in any option the lights were brighter on H/U than on battery alone showing the charger was running the 12v

Would that be Schaudt ?

If so there are plenty of cases of the charger failing. Mine did.

The factory will overhaul these and accept them direct from the owner.

Which to me would say Fuse.

But,

I did learn something from my adoptive Electrical father Hilldweller when he tramped over to the posh part of Cheshire to help me out., and that is that fuses blow for a reason,,,
Incidently Brian, looks like it was that dodgy wire on the toad you found that was causing the problem. :thumb:
