Good evening everyone,
Is there a sell by date on truma rubber pigtails?, my gas cupboard is starting to smell a bit!.

Thanks
Kieran.

Worth checking all the joints as one may be slightly loose and seeping enough to smell🤔

If you think its gas surely its worth changing them anyway or is there something else that could be causing a smell?
Regulator, copper pipe connections?

A lot of the smell is the added gas - but that will be worse on older tuning, right?

I bought a small hand held gas detector.
It's easy to use, just turn it on and hold it near a joint/connection. It's simple and effective and not very expensive.
Great for giving you peace of mind.

What is the smell they put in gas ? Some time back we met a guy at a rally and his job was putting the smell in gas but can’t remember what he said it was, once you get it on your hands it takes days to get off😳

Thanks kevenh 👍🏻
They work well.
I was suspicious of a locker smell.
Moved the sensor from the regulator along the tube to the bottle, and from an increase in beep intensity, I found I hadn't fully turned off the tap.
It needed more effort to fully close than I expected.

With it properly secured I thought it would be a hoot to demo the sensor to mrskevenh by turning on a gas ring on the cooker. So releasing the trapped gas.
The sensor beeped very urgently then and a surprised and cross mrskevenh suggested I was very silly and should not do that again (or similar words).

edit: hmm. a little funnier in real life than described in a post

Am I picking you up correctly. With the gas valve open you shouldn’t get a gas alarm unless you have a leak.

Not only the hoses, I remember dropping off an empty calor bottle at Dover on our way over to catch a ferry a few years ago. It leaked on the bottle outlet connection so even when turned off it still leaked. Had smelt if for some time on and off but could not work it out until actually being in the van overnight.

Good point. I recounted my anecdote incorrectly.
This was after a bottle exchange so it was the nut on tube's pigtail that needed more tightening ;)
Tnx for the feedback

I just asked the question at Autogas2000 you would have thought he would have mentioned that.
Technically no lifespan as such on a rubber hose unless it’s a class 1 which is 5 years .
Lots of different opinions on this subject.
NCC fitters seem to get really excited when they find an old pigtail.
I am actually Gas Safe Registered with the lav ticket , it’s all down to condition basically as a year old hose could need replacement on a seaside holiday park home .
