Hi

Does anyone use one of these, or able to see any problem with me making one up?

I want an outside power supply to use with an electric hot plate, or similar. In the past we have used a 13amp extension cable through a window into the van. I was considering making a short cable with a male and female EHU plugs on, that, when required I would fit it into the EHU at the van end. The short cable would then have a length of cable wired into the back of one of the EHU plugs, with a Heavy Duty waterproof 13amp socket on the end of it

TIA

A connector to the van is available with a continental socket on the back, I got one a few years ago but can't remember where from, a German supplier I think. A google search may find something.

I have used a similar arrangement previously when I wanted to power a cool box in the awning. As your outdoor power supply is not protected by the van's RCD, a plug in RCD (like you would use for an electric lawn mower etc) is needed on the trailing lead socket unless it has a built in RCD

The appliance will be protected by the site supply box

It would be nice to think so, but for my own safety I would have my own RCD

Cheers

Trevor

Been using one for quite a few years without incident as have many continental vans that i have seen, where I got the idea from.

Now it has stopped raining, here is my setup. Two female sockets and one male socket are wired together. One of the female plugs is plugged into the van, the other has the outside lead plugged into it. The hookup lees connects to the male plug.

On the end of the trailing lead is a single outlet which has the plug in RCD in it

Cheers

Thank you Trevor, that was exactly what I was thinking of, but with the 13amp outlet directly into the male socket, as it is the only appliance that I intend to connect. I note the RCD
