We are at Cauterets in the Pyrenees and looking to follow up anothrr suggestion on my previous thread, and go to La Mongie to go on the above cable car.

What I’m asking is:
Is it obvious when we get to La Mongie where the cable car is.
Is the Aire near by, how far.
Or, can we park a 7.5m MH at the Cable Car location.

Many thanks.

The cable car station is very evident. Large car park and you shouldn't have a problem parking, although I've only ever been there with a car. Enjoy the ride!

As @Pete5996 says, the car park is very obvious. From memory there are no height barriers ( I think there are coach bays) and I don't think there'd be a problem parking your motorhome, though you'd probably have to use the furthest corner.
Enjoy the cable cars and the film at the top is well worth watching. Amazing old footage of how they got materials to the top etc..

This where I remember parking on the first visit

We are now in Luz-Saint-Sauveur, and having read all the comments warning not to take a M H up the Col du Tourmalet; I’m thinking of whipping out and go via Lourdes. Having a lorry overtake me this morning clipping our wing mirror, didn’t help. It knocked it forward but fortunately only damaged the cover, and was able to stop and put it back in position. All this ranting on if just to see if anyone agrees with taking an extra hour to play safe.
Really enjoying the Pyrenees and driving the wind8ng roads.

Getting up to La Mongie from the east side isn't a problem but I'd think twice about going over the Col de Tourmalet.

If you haven't been to Lourdes before, be prepared for a shock - the commercialism has to be seen to be believed!

If you're into walking, there's a very nice path south from Pont d'Espagne towards the Vignemale, with a tea stop/refuge as you reach the cirque north of the mountain. A fair bit of uphill going but downhill on the way back:)

About 4 hours return, IIRC

Went to Lourdes the other day, just to see for ourselves; we won’t be going again. Thanks for the reply. Still 50/50 to going over or around.

@Coopit sorry to hear about your close shave with a lorry but if possible don’t let it put you off, it was just a stupid lorry driver!

We drove up to the top of the Col du Tourmalet from the West side and it really was not a problem (just don’t look at your MPG readout!) then the next day we drove down the East side.

If you can do it the view is breathtaking (literally as it’s nearly 10000ft above sea level!)

Had we not had the nuts wind in the night (outside, not us!) we would have stayed all night but if you read the blog you will see why.

We love the Pyranees and are headed that way in the next few days (y)

Can only comment on Lourdes. Went there in 2002 with low expectations and it was even worse than anticipated.

Just how gullible can some people be?
