I am looking to replace my ageing Exide 85AH Gel battery that has served me for the past 9 years ( so its done ok ) not that we have put it under extreme pressure of discharge.
I have noticed a tailing off in the performance so think its time to dig into my piggy bank! ( am I allowed to say that?? ) and replace it.

come up with 3 that seem to fit the bill of,
1. physical size constraints 2. 100AH + , 3. GEL

so the short list so far is:-
1. Exide ES1300, 120 AH, and approx £270 delivered
2. Leoch GTP12150 150ah and £300 delivered If I can find stock.
3. Photonic Universe GEL , 100 AH and £180 delivered. + terminal post £8.

I know the exide is a good bet if my current hab battery is anything to go by, but anyone knowledge or experience of the Photonic Gel's.

Do the specifications show their mass?

Heavier is usually better.

Have you looked at Sonnenschine they make the Exide Gels they are an Exide company. Equivalent battery is often a fair bit cheaper.
I have 3 of their 78a/h Gels, 2 are 5 years old, one nearly 4 years old, all still performing like new.

I did look at those and tagged them in my browser but I only have space for
1 battery without a major change to layout.
So was looking for 1 battery preferably around the 100ah.
I will keep looking, not going anywhere any time soon.....

Sonnenschine do a 120a/h and a 196a/h.

Will look at their measurements as I am stuck to max sizes unfortunately.

I have considered fitting a second but it would need to be a couple of feet from the first battery.
I am quite capable of doing all of that but unsure about the cable lengths between the 2 batteries and fitting in parallel ideally the post and neg terminals one to each battery.

A couple of feet no broblem use 25mmsq cable will be more than more than enough. As the batteries are a little way apart I would put a fuse in line with the second one.
Although ideally the positive connect should be taken from one battery and the negative from the the other, it's not important with only 2 batteries. I would just connect the 2nd one in parallel and leave other connections as they are.

There's a Lithium for sale in the classifieds if you're interested, a bit more than you were wanting to spend but would probably be a good investment.

I would need to check my schaudt unit as I think it only has lead acid and Gel settings.

Just measured up on the van it could be as much as 7 feet apart

Looks like there is a significant difference in weight between the photonic at 31kgs and the exide at 39kgs.

There’s your answer then; more lead, longer lasting and mire tolerant of high discharge rates.

Looking more like replacing my current exide with a larger AH exide. But I have a little bit of thinking time yet.. I know that can be dangerous!!! Thinking that is
