Peugeot Engine Query (1 Viewer)

I need advice on whether my Peugeot Boxer 330 LX MWB HDI 2178cc engine has a cambelt or a chain.

Pappajohn is obviously much better than I at either asking the right question or disseminating the information provided from Google as a visit there left me as confused as ever. The vehicle was first registered in July 2004. Despite having an excellent service record I can find no evidence that a cambelt has ever been replaced. I'm beginning to panic. Will we make it to the nearest garage?

If there is no record of a previous change then I would have it done asap.....it should be about due for it's second belt at that age.

£250 for a belt change or £1500 for a top end rebuild when the belt fails

If you have no record or evidence of a belt change, as PappaJohn stated best get it done asap, it's not worth the risk. or subsequent costs and associated hassles.

The peace of mind that you can go away in the van knowing all is in good order is well worth the outlay.:thumb:

i thought the peugeots use transit engines with a chain

Mines a 2007, probably 2006 engine though and that definitely has a chain, I know because I took it in to be changed and the garage found it was chain. No charge

Just an update for anybody who is interested.. Had a new cambelt kit plus waterpump fitted yesterday. £380.00. So now I know it's a belt for sure but how come Chaser's engine has a chain. Still vaguely confused but at least I now have peace of mind.

From what I can find pre 2007 BUILT date, not 2007 registered have a belt.
After 2007 build date is a chain.

Probably the year difference between facelift models and pre facelift.
