I have a Peugeot Boxer manual 5 gear. Have been told that loss of synchromesh on 3rd gear is a fault on this vehicle due to water ingress. Have been to replace the gearbox- what is this likely to cost or is there another solution ?

1999 - hope I am answering the right person _ new to this

We had a 2001 Autocruise Starfire with 1.9 Peugeot engine and that had a problem when not used for a while the clutch would stick, I found the scuttle drain pipe was directed on to the gearbox, I repositioned this and that sorted it.
So maybe worth a look.

The clutch cable continually stretches on these as they are very long and poorly routed.
This can cause issues with gear selection. You can add washers to the cable when it stretches too much or replace. Where I live in Buckley is a gear box and clutch centre. They usually replace your gearbox with a reconditioned one.

If you are new to this Google "Peugeot/Fiat Scuttle modification". Basically means adding a pipe to the drain they have and directing water to floor rather than all over gearbox

Much appreciate all your help. its low mileage - only 58000 bought just over a year ago so its a bit of a shock. Can a gearbox be repaired? Otherwise its looking like costing around £1500 to fit a refurbished one

Ask these people for a quote for a replacement gearbox just for a bench mark idea ?
They are very reasonable.
