I have just read that Volkswagen is to discontinue its petrol version in the UK after only one year of selling, the usual restructuring its models is the reason given.

It makes you wonder why when Diesel is being demonized and banned in many cities, petrol versioned campers still seem unable to sell at a commercially viable level.

Shame

Should read "after only one year of NOT selling"

The "Bus" scene is awash with petrol engined campers, fetching crazy prices.

Who knew that the petrol version of the T6 existed. VW's marketing budget for this UK model must have been about 2d.

I guess that the California only makes up a very small proportion of the T6 sales and they aren't going to sell any standard panel vans with a petrol, so it probably just wasn't worth the extra costs at the factory.

Aren't most cities only banning pre-Euro6 diesels? So a new one would be fine anyway?

No one in his right mind would want one. Combine it with the auto box if you really want to see how bad the fuel consumption is.
Consumption in real (not VW) world is between 4 and 5 miles per litre loaded

Reminiscent of the T4 with the 2.8 VR6 engine. A few Westy Californias as well as Caravelles were sold with this engine. Autobahn stormer but terrible petrol consumption.

the T4 VR6 was quick but the T4 V6 that followed it was a rocketship, both could do 20mpg but nobody ever drove them for mpg :D
