This is a email I sent to my member of parliament Andrew rosindell.and this is he's reply.
Hi Andrew rosindell it looks like as a British citizen we are being treated unfairly compared to an EU citizen who can stay in our country for 180 days consecutively whereas we have to jump through hoops to stay longer than 90 days yours martin.

Dear Martin

Thank you very much for contacting me, regarding reciprocal travel agreements with the E.U.

I wanted you to know that I have received your message and am grateful to you for taking the time to raise this matter with me personally.

I agree that we should have a fair international travel system with the E.U., which includes both U.K. and E.U. nationals having the same opportunities for travel.

As your local M.P., I was also very concerned to learn about these unequal rules and I raised my concerns with the Rt. Hon. Michael Gove M.P., and submitted a Written Parliamentary Question about the issue.

It was explained that before negotiations began, the E.U. had already legislated that U.K. nationals would not need a visa when travelling to the Schengen area for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This was in line with their standard visa-free travel length for all third-party countries entering the Schengen Zone.

Individual Member States may allow longer stays, for example in line with the U.K.’s offering of 180 days, but this would need to be a bi-lateral agreement between the U.K. and each Member State, rather than the E.U. as a whole.

The problem is that the E.U. are not reasonable and see things a political battle, instead of agreeing straightforward and sensible bi-lateral arrangements which benefit everyone, as we do.

I will continue to raise this with ministers, and although we have a deal with the E.U., I hope that negotiations will continue with individual states until a more fair and equal travel agreement is reached with each country.

If you would like to discuss this or any other issue with me further, please do not hesitate to get in touch at any time.

With every good wish.

He really needs to learn the rules. If they offered 180 days carte blanche then they would have to do the same for all non -eu counries.
90 days in 180 has always been the EU amount & residency required after day 91.

States could offer longer periods but usually it was those too lazy to require registration who did by taking the easy way out.The UK did this .EU rules state any national laws that offer greater benefits or safety to the citizen take precedence over EU directives. The Uk was stuck with 180 days having had it for years .The same as the EU sticks to 90 days.

It isn't anything to do with being 'political' or bi-lateral agreements but when you are in the club it is 90 days go next door for another 90 ad infinitum. When you aren't paying in you are restricted. Why would they want to offer better terms to someone who isn't in the club than those who are ?

EU citizens can stay here for 180 days because that was the rule we had for third country nationals before Brexit. For example someone from the USA could visit for six months. That was our rule for third countries and EU/Schengen folk are now classed as coming from a third country.

The 90 day limit is the EUs limit for third country nationals. They are not being unreasonable because it was inevitable the rule would apply to us when we left.

We could change our rule to 90 days of course, that is entirely up to us.

I see this as another instance where we have agreed to something then want to alter it more or less straight away unless the aim is to reduce our limit to the same as the EU.
