it last as long as there are pages in the book ( sections that is ) the more you go away the quicker it fills up. you will need Rabies Vac and that will last 3 years before needing updating again, also each booste vaccine every year needs to be recorded.

I think we paid a similar amount so sounds about right. Also if you are only travelling in the EU (according to my vet) you don't need to have the blood test any more. Make sure you take the annual vaccination card when you travel as well.

You will need to have the rabies injection, plus if you intend going to any none listed countries outside the EU, you will also require a certificate to prove the pet has had the rabies jab (not required in the EU).

Our dog was already chipped and we paid around £120 including the rabies vaccination then another £75 for the blood test/certificate.

The passport lasts until you have filled all the pages up. Although Vets in France tend to stamp and sign any of the pages to certify that a worming tablet has been given and the dog appears healthy.

That sounds about right.
Check the chip number is entered correctly in the passport.
Each time dog has vaccination and when he/she has the worm tablet coming back from Europe check the date and time entered. I've had vets make mistakes on both.
Ask vet for 3 year rabies jab. Occasionally you get a vet that has to order it in, but they'll do it if you specify.

The regular jab section on Cass's passport was filled up last week---she's just coming up to 9 and the passport was issued when she was 6 months old.

P.s you don't need to have the blood test done unless you specifically want to check levels after rabies jab. Watch out for ticks in France and Spain.

a scalibor collar can be effective againts ticks and sandfly's ( no their not really sand flies ) thats what they are called and are more of a problem the further south you go especially Spain

The passport we brought for our eldest Marmite, cost us £500 5 years ago, vet kept saying he needed the blood test done again, needless to say we changed vets
Johns cost £90 this year! A huge difference, but nowadays the blood tests aren't required.
We use a scalibor collar on both of ours and touch wood, not seen a tick or had sand fly bites on either, they do have advocate too which does protect against lungworm as well as the norm.

The definitive guidance is here: https://www.gov.uk/take-pet-abroad

Check and double check the passport. We met someone at the port whose pet passport wasn't in order and nearly wasn't allowed back from Spain. She had to go and see a vet to get the passport amended. Very stressful!!

New rules came into force a couple of years ago. Now to obtain a pet passport, animals must firstly be microchipped, then they have a rabies jab, blood test is no longer required, three weeks after this they can re-enter the UK So long as they have been to a vet between 1 & 5 days prior to returning, the passport needs to be stamped on the worming page only if returning from most European countries. Some of the Eastern European countries may require both the wormer & frontline plus a pet wellness check, you would need to check on defra which countries these are needed for. In the UK the rabies booster vaccine is required every 3 years, French dogs are required to have it annually and Belgium, Spain, Germany, Holland and Italy are every 2 years, this makes no difference to your pet as you are domicilled in the UK and go under UK regulations. A replacement/second passport (when one is full) is normally charged at about £25 from the vets but this can vary, and details of the old passport are logged in it, always keep the old ones and take with you when you travel in case they are needed. We had to get a new one in France last year as we hadn't noticed that it was full and we were only charged €10 for it - might have to get the other dogs in France too!
When you go to a vet prior to return, always ask how much it is for the consultation and take your own wormer with you (French vets are quite happy about this), choose a vet in a smaller town, as far from the port as possible before you travel back as they are usually considerably cheaper, we normally pay anything between €20 - €35 for two dogs, we even know one who doesn't charge us (we take cheddar cheese for them instead!).
