Does anyone know of any specialist insurer who deals with personal insurance for motorhome travel overseas? When we had our old motorhome we travelled all over Europe and had normal annual travel insurance- never had to claim - would we have been covered as I know insurance companies always try to get out of paying out?

We have a 'normal' annual policy for travel anywhere in Europe. Only really to help with any serious medical emergency.

BUT of course with Covid-19 everything changes, particularly if you are wanting to buy new cover now.

I understand there are companies that will provide specialist cover, even to go to places the FCO advises against non essential travel eg France and Spain etc at the moment.

It would take some searching out and no doubt be expensive, but I'm sure it's available if you look hard enough.

Travel insurance isn't any different for a MH than for any other type of travel, the fact that its a MH makes no difference to you say going in a car instead. What is important is that you ensure you adhere to any requirements and check the policies carefully. One thing that some fall foul of is bicycle cover (if added/included) - if a bicycle is left out it must normally be secured to an immovable object and some insurers do not regard it being locked to a bike rack mounted on the rear of a MH as meeting this requirement so some remove them and lock them to a nearby 'immovable' structure. This wouldn't be any different if it was a bike rack on a car though as they'd likely have the same restriction.

Your motorhome and home insurance will cover some of your possessions in the motorhome so you can often get a cheaper policy as you won't need baggage cover etc.

The other thing that might have been a problem if you had to claim was the length of the trip and any limit in length of trip similarly if you had a household insurance claim was there a limit on cover if unocupied.
