So, with the stay at home being lifted on Monday, we are being ask to ‘Stay local’. However, you are allowed to travel to a second home, which may be miles and miles away!
My question is, can we go out on a day trip to say the coast, so long as we return home the same day?
We don’t have a second home, but would very much like to visit the coast.
As far as I can see, there dosen’t appear to be any firm guidance on this Particular point.
thanks.

Don’t quote me, but I think what you are proposing is fine, you just cannot stay overnight until after April 12. That’s how I read it anyhow! We are in Cornwall and expect it to be busy on the beaches etc. With “day trippers” over the Easter holidays, even though shops won’t be open etc.

No firm guidance Nigel but I guess stay local for now, the second home visits are for specific reasons , a long trip to the coast may just raise risk for u or others including the NHS , so depends what you think is local and how far you have to go.
Feel for you if you are a long way away from the sea but it will happen soon

I would guess it depends on what you class as local. Some people think 100 miles is a long way. Others would count that as staying local. I don’t think we can get 100 miles from the sea on our little island so for me. Crack on go to the coast, just remember to be back home overnight or your moho will turn into a pumpkin.

Thanks, we are approx 45 miles to where we want to go.
Would be parked away from people, walk along beach/sea, own facilities on board, so no need to come into contact with people, so carn’t see any problem. But, you sort of have that feeling of guilt in the back of your mind, as 45 miles isn’t realistically local! We have stuck to the rules throughout, but have to say, getting more stir crazy as each week goes by🙈

Using the word local is pretty useless really. I would say it’s about five miles, others 100.
And it’s unenforceable on a national scale.
It remains to be seen whether it will be policed......I suspect not and hope not, although it will be a test of common sense for a lot of folk.
Have a nice day! :giggle:

here is what the government road map says for the 29th March onwards:

Can you do it without getting in any trouble ?
More than likely

is a 45 minute drive to the coast “local”?
That’s for you to decide

My personal view ( not that it counts for anything) is that you should go and visit the coast and I don’t think you would be challenged by anyone if you do so .

Well we are only 10 miles from the coast and have nice little spot lined up over looking Chesel beach that only has room for one van to park. We used it many times last year, with the van we are “ self supporting”.
We have a full fuel tank since the November lockdown so won’t need to socialise with anyone.

My problem with this whole affair is not knowing what is guidance and what is law. I suspect words like local isn't used in statutes and so this aspect probably falls in the guidance category. But what do I know.

But that's my point too. 🤣

Just read the gov website and it says the stay at home rule ends on March 29th, doesn’t say anything about staying local, but does say to try and minimise travel if possible. Long and short of it, is you will not get in to trouble, it’s just whether you think it’s the right thing to do. This has been a crazy year and personally I think getting out and about for the day in the fresh air and change of scenery sensibly works wonders for mental health etc. Let’s not forget from April 12th all shops etc. Are likely to open and you‘ll be able to travel and stay overnight etc. At sites. So i personally see no harm in a day trip if you remain socially distanced and take the usual COVID precautions....just my thoughts 😀

One of many reasons ACPO have said they cannot police the Regs. We are 100m from a bright, but pure dead Baltic, Firth of Forth and are supposed to stay within 5 miles to 'stay local'. For weeks now [esp. since we began searching for a m/home!], we have seen the 2 car parks with m/homes with the occupants locked inside, getting 'fresh air' by leaving all the windows closed and drinking tea or coffee! But those on the Leisure Centre Car Park can at least see the sea. Those on the Links Car Park can see the Chippie and the trainline ...

We've spoken to m/homers [tap window & retreat 2 metres] from Alloa [26 miles away] who were charging their battery, and others from more local towns [but still more than 5 miles away]. They're probably causing less infection risk by staying 'indoors' but with a change of scenery, than others who have to dodge the hoards of walkers & parents shepherding dogs and kids in the playpark, oblivious to social distancing needs! We used to do the Freestyle Dog Dirt Slalom, now it's the Freestyle Combined Dog Dirt & COVID Contact avoidance Championships ...

Just seen ezzeerider gov update where it says stay local as much as possible....I still think you would be fine, as for enforcing, I can’t really see what the police can enforce and if all hopefully goes well it’s for 2 weeks before the next stage on April 12. Like I say, if you are going to feel a whole lot better for the day trip, go for it.
