I'm a newbie.
Hi. I am thinking — or, rather, trying to pluck up courage to go to the Pembrey rally. I have booked two nights at a forest site in Aberdovey and thought I might venture further down.
I have only been away in my old Mondial 3x2 nights since I got it a year ago. In truth, unless you get the weather to sit outside and chat to other campers, I have found it quite lonely in the campervan with only my two lovely dogs to converse with!! ( Never had the weather yet!!)
I want to bite the bullet and go to the rally but it will be one extreme to the other I feel.
Two things worry me — will my old campervan stand out like a sore thumb and will it be dog friendly. Are any of you going to it and can you give me some advice please. ( I have never been on a site yet that I had no electric plug ins.)
Thanks in anticipation. Marilynn.

Just do it.......... You and your little mates will be made most welcome...

Don`t read anything into the anti dog/cat/budgie/parrot thread`s that have been put on by a few lately...

If all them with dog`s stayed away most rally`s and meet`s would be pretty thin on the ground with human`s..

99.9% of Funsters are great people and will welcome you into their pop up tent`s for a drink or a chat....

And if you are single..... you will find a lot like you...

Go on book up and have a great time... (y) :wine::hugs:

PS........... Does not matter how old your M-home is... your`s looks a nice little unit.... usable... (y)

If you go don't be afraid to tell people it's your first rally. Many friendly folk will help you out and give you pointers.
Once you start putting faces to names on here it makes it all the more easier next time.
Nothing wrong with that van and if someone does make a comment then they are not the ones to be with.
Go and try, fingers crossed for the weather.

Hi go to rally you will enjoy every one is helpful friendly we’re all dog lovers take it from me I’ve been though it my wife left me over my dog Tommy when I started in a Escort van sleeping in the back so don’t worry about you MH Andy

We had similar thoughts when we started, most of us have had older vans, many still have. No one bothers. Everyone is welcome. Join in, just do your own thing, it's up to you. We never found anyone who was judgemental. Just relax and do it. Pembrey is a nice place to start. Also everyone is great if you ever have a problem over the weekend.

You and the dogs will be made very welcome. As old-mo mentioned 99,9% are great people.
A lot think that I'm the 00.01% bad un. Bring your sun glasses and a glass for what ever tipple you like.:cool::cool: :wine::wine:

pembrey would be a great place to start, we went too the first one a few years ago probably the best fun rally weve been too
only reason we havent been again is its the fact its as far as paris for us

we have also never been to a meet and pembrey will be our first we also have an old van and are taking our two lovely puppies unfortunatly i have to go back to sheffield on the saturday morning for the football (will be back} so wifey will be at a loose end.

Hi, Old MH / Camper? Just think of it more as being in a vintage (rare) car! I am chuffed when a fellow Funster comes along as says we have the same model (or similar) as your own, especially when they are older... Happened at Shepton Mallet show and I was straight over to say hello to Alan who was also happy to let me have a quick look inside and swop ideas for little upgrades (LED bulbs etc..)
I don't know how you access it but there is also a part of the forum for single ladies just like yourself that are worried about being lonely or not fitting in... My partner and I happened to go and introduce ourselves at their table on the Stratford meet and it seemed pretty clear they chat a lot away from the gatherings and sometimes arrive in convoy or together so they can feel safer knowing a familiar face will be there too and camp together. Perhaps one of the singles could read this and message you about that part of the forum?

No problem with your van, everyone has vans of different ages and you'll find it's your dogs who will help you make friends and talk to people. We don't have a dog right now which sort of makes us want to be around people who do have dogs if that makes sense ?

It's not our first rally but probably don't know anyone who is going.

Go for it. My first too. I have signed up but not told the lovely Ken just yet, as he will have time to worry about stuff - like weather, getting stuck, all those people we don’t know, etc, etc, my trump card here is the steam fair. We often go to Welland. And if he doesn’t want to go I will turn up anyway. No dogs, but hopefully I shall be mostly enjoying the company with a winning smile and I won’t Wander about aimlessly wondering what I should be doing/where I should be/why am I here. Never done this sort of joining in with people I don’t know, albeit virtual friends ?. (Yet). Ps I am not having a banner made telling people I am a rally virgin ? but it will be Fun ... see you soon. Susan

This will be our third Pembrey rally. It is very well organised but you can take part in any of the events or none - it is al very informal. I guarantee though that you will take part in most of the events. Your dogs will love it, several others will have dogs and Pembrey is a wonderful place for them. If you are happy with your van then that is all that matters!!
see ou there!

Hi thanks for payment ....Kate please add malkyk9..... and marrod has paid aswell Kate thanks hun xxxc

mallyk9 First rallies are always a bit scary but funsters are a great bunch and you will soon find yourself chatting and making new friends. I know what you mean about a small van but there will be a marquee so somewhere to go in the evenings...no need to be alone..If you are used to having hookup then keeping warm at night could be more difficult so make sure you have extra blankets.. hot water bottle and maybe extra towels to dry the dogs if it's wet. A 12 volt charger for your phone and a torch. Oh and don't forget your swimming kit...it's a beautiful beach !!

Lucky one —thanks for the advice — except for the swimming kit — No way Jose!!!
What is a 12 volt charger and where do I get one??? Phone shop or caravan shop?
I am sooooo not offay with this campervan lark.!!!
It is quite snug in my camper with my Bassett and Bijon/Jc X — they pinch the blankets!!
Look forward to seeing you there — mine will be the one with the big red “L” sign outside!

Assuming you have a cigarette lighter socket in the van you could use that and get accessories from camping shop or Amazon. Or buy a power bank to charge at home before you go. ?

I went to the halloween rally a couple of years ago, organised by the same retrobaits as this one I believe. A friendlier more helpful bunch of drunkards you will not come across. You will learn so much about motorhomes and do not be afraid to ask. My advice would be, do not try to keep up with those lovely looking ladies when it comes to drinking, they can all drink more than a rugby team individually, but if you do try, someone will carry you back to your van.

If you want anything charging let us know and we can sort it out we often charge phones etc for funsters who don't have solar or inverters. Just have a chat with us if we can help we will.
Kind regards Kate
