I've just spent the past four hours trying to make a Paypal transaction for a measly £32 and all I get is a message saying 'There might be a problem'!!!!

OK, so I'm in Spain and I've had to use a VPN to get onto the site and log in. I have two cards registered but don't put money into my Paypal account...but then again never had to. I have a regular payment to Spotify that goes out no problems, even made a payment to Ryanair just a few weeks ago.

Ample funds in both card accounts...loosing the will to live...anyone any idea?

Just a guess but if either the site you are trying to make the transaction on or more likely Paypal have detected the VPN that would be enough for them to flag it as suspicious.

Probably is the VPN as above, I have to disconnect mine to use paypal and it's just to down the road.

That's the one I think is the case, without the VPN I get this:

Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.paypal.com/signin/?" on this server.

I'm on Cloud wifi so thought ahhh...I'll try connecting on my '3' mifi...it let me log on without using the VPN, got all excited as I thought it might work

As far as I can see Pay Pal doesn't believe you are you because of the VPN hiding the identity of the machine you are using

Try and connect directly

I've managed it

Thought I'd try my phone (as opposed to laptop on Cloud with VPN and mifi without vpn).

Phone is on '3', don't have a paypal app, just used google search for Paypal, logged in, put details in, pressed send...and BINGO!

...quite why I have no idea! But I beat it...I bloody beat it....!!!!

I have never used a VPN from anywhere to use PayPal.. Just use it like normal..
PayPal really does not like VPN connections as the originator can hide..

Sounds like the thread title should be 'well done paypal for looking out for me and detecting suspicious activity'
Ultimately you're using a vpn to disguise your location ... nice one paypal.
