Enquired about a new van (55k+) for delivery in March 2021. Was Not surprised that they wanted a deposit, but 5k! plus rest had to be PAID TWO WEEKS before collecting the van. I would had thought yes pay a deposit and pay the rest AFTER you had checked over the van.
Colyboy. ps not buying the van!

As I posted in another thread yesterday, if I couldn't have it in a week I wouldn't have it.

£5K deposit is not unreasonable, it's less than 10% of the value.
To be honest, if it's a major dealer getting a vesicle built to your spec, I'm surprised that the deposit was not 20%.

It's also not unreasonable to ensure that 80% of the money is in an Escrow account when it arrives at the dealership for checking.

However I totally agree that the final 20% should not be handed over until you have the keys in your hands!

Fidget. Not buying Them this way, But do to recent health issue we are going to down size to a PVC 640 size van. Favourite at the moment is the Rapido V68 single beds an a most have oven. Others
to be seen are the Rapido Dreamer D68. Adria Twin but don’t like the fridge electric only. Re the two Rapidos they seem to have quite a bit of storage space

We will do similar in next couple of years for same reasons

Make sure the deposit is paid on a credit card as you will protected if the dealer goes bust. It will not protect the who purchase as it is over 30K

Hi Paul , last time we had to pay a reserve deposit £1000 , but was refundable if I changed my mind before it arrived , it wasn,t a special order , just one they had coming in eventually

The risk of them going bust is a good reason for NOT paying more than a reasonable deposit before you lay eyes on and approve the MH. There is no way I would give them more before I saw it.

Hi Paul
just out of interest , <Broken link removed>
or they haved several similar used ones in stock , you could check out on line
we are popping down tomorrow to have a look , while on our way home , not changing yet but doing research

Sorry to say this but that van is about as inspiring as a hospital waiting room.

Roller Team, just like Swift, Autotrail, Elddis, Chausson and Benimar jumped on the PVC bandwagon to help boost their respective sales quotos and threw these things together with little thought to proper PVC'ing.

It'll be OK for a day-out van but that's about it.

Another reason to buy secondhand. The MH is there to see and inspect before even making an offer.

Rapido..............wise choice!:giggle:;)(y)

Blue Knight, what crap ! We have an Auto Trail, it is our second V Line. The build is as good as it comes on the two we have had.

Nothing has caused us any problems, the insulation is as good as any PVC we looked at prior to buying. We use ours all through the winter, ok we have insulated water tank and heater, not on board water tank but something a dealer can do for a couple of hundred quid.

Coly Boy, we only live in South Somerset you are welcome to contact me if you would like to see a comfortable van.

Standard fit, refillable underslung 25ltr gas tank, 100 watt solar, radio/disc/ reversing cam, steering wheel radio/phone control, Avtex tv, I Nett Truma, Truma SOG toilet, 5 x 230v sockets, I bet a lot of this is extra on your Rapido/Dreamer.

You obviously haven’t see or been in the Benimar range! Nothing like a waiting room, extreamly comfortable full of extras and 99% wood free

Picking up a 2005 Burstner at the end of October paid £2k deposit on a £28k van... the wait is helping us sort out insurance, storage etc... but I seriously wouldn’t buy anything I couldn’t see or test!

I don't think there's any van that's 99% wood free ..what's the units made of?

That’s what it says 🤔

5k deposit is far too high we have bought 3 new Hymers only ever put 1k down and I wouldn't pay before collection.

I had a friend some years ago he sent the dealer a cheque on Monday ready to collect the van on Friday dealer went into liquidation on the Thursday he lost the lot.

Why the 'obviously' in your sentence. I've been in every PVC on the market today. The Benivan is very much like the Dacia Duster of the PVC world.

They just oozed 'thrown together' when we inspected them last year.

......very much like a Dacia v a BMW equivalent.

If people keep buying these things then the manufacturers will keep chucking them out.

Definetley a day van and that's about it.

And the BENIVAN is a double whammy of course, it’s only part of the ”Benimar range” because it is in the Benimar brochure....being built in Grimsby by Autotrail (Alongside the RT Toleno / Chausson Van for UK/ Tribute Van/ etc etc

Only available from Marquis group

With deposits why cannot they be made to the manufacturer? After all the dealer is only the Agent for the manufacturer as Principal, so one would be paying the deposit to the Principal.

I know sales legislation makes the position unclear since under the Sale of Goods Act the dealer is held responsible, but he is not the producer of the product.

Interesting idea, less chance of the manufacturer going bump. Whoever holds them it should be a legal requirement to hold them in a client account.

The poster means there is only 1% wood used in the construction of the body shell. That 1% is actually the top layer of the floor panel which is a plywood sheet.

Oooh no! The Sale of Goods Act was replaced 5 years ago by the Consumer Rights Act. When one buys a motorhome, one signs a contract with the dealer, and the CRA is quite clear, the dealer is totally responsible not whoever is the producer of the product.

Following your line of thought, for a motorhome, one would have to pay deposits to the manufacturer of the vehicle chassis, each of the manufacturers whose appliances are fitted in the van, as well as the motorhome manufacturer. Taking that to its logical conclusion, I wonder how much deposit you would have to pay for the wood panels used in the construction of the manufacturer of the screws used.
