I am very happy to able to report that I have just had an excellent service from the Passport Office! Applied for a renewed passport last Thursdays and a the new one came through the letterbox this morning (Wednesday) - 7 days including a weekend. All the way through the process I received updates via e-mail when they had the money, when they received the application, when they received the old passport, when they approved the application and when they dispatched the passport. I can only think that the passport office have been taken over by aliens from the planet Letsbeofficiant.
I did my application by the internet having got a digital photo and secure photo reference number, paid on line and sent old passport by signed for 1st class post (£2.60). I have posted this in case there is anyone about to undertake this process and might be worrying about how long it will take - just as I was! Oh, and they are happy to put the new passport through your letter box so no worries about having to be in when it arrives.
A big well done to everyone at the Passport Office who have worked hard to get everything sorted and to deliver an excellent service to the public.
