Our fourth glorious year!
How many times have we crossed the channel and dashed to the south to Spain, Italy or wherever.Well this time we have decided just to drive down from Edinburgh, cross the Chanel and then just mooch about the Pas de Calais area.Anyone in the area fancy sharing a glass or three!

Can recommend the book 90 Minutes from Calais, you can get it on Amazon. I spent a week there and only scratched the surface, so many things to see and do (y)

This is where my OH is originally from. It might not be the most beautiful part of France but has nice historical towns and I like the small coastal towns such as Etaples and Berck sur Mer, just inland Montreuil is a lovely little town which made me fall in love with France and move here.
Have a great time

Good site with excellent facilities and welcoming staff at ACSI site at Saint Martin En Campagne just north of Dieppe on the coast, Also good restaurant and beautiful beach. We also used the vet in the village. Maybe a bit too far south?

We agree about Montreuil.Stayed there a couple of times on the road south and an evening stroll around the ramparts is a good way to unwind after a long drive.Thinking of taking a look at St Omer and Hesdin.Anyone know if either have much to offer?

A good secure Aire behind the Mun. Campsite & next to a nice lake. The parking is level & quiet, with nice walks around the lakes & lots of birds + wildlife to see. We noticed a slight noise at night from a distant factory.

We have used Le Champ Neuf a few times in the bay of the Somme. A very nice site, lovely easy cycle paths from the site, owners are very helpful. We arrived once and only the dad was there and could not speak a word of English but took us in his van round the site for us to take our pick of the pitches then with a bit of arm waving we picked our pitch and went up later to pay. Worth a look if you want a site.

There is the Somme bay too, just one hour south of Calais with the historic towns of St Valery sur Somme (1066) and Le Crotoy (Joan of Arc) and Crecy nearby (battle of Crecy 1346) etc. We like the area so much we bought a Chalet there!

When we were there last year it looked like they were putting an "aire" in the car park.
There is also a lovely campsite just round the corner .

We stopped here last month as all the aires were full (may have been a French holiday). Its not an aire as such just parking, found it using Campingcar infos POI.We stopped overnight and it was really peaceful and plenty of room (we had 7mtr van +smart trailer)
