Don’t give up. It’s happening for most of this morning. yy

Almost clear skies in Chester/North Wales..

Just used old pair of solar eclipse sunglasses from the 1999 eclipse in front of the lens of my Lumix TZ90 compact to get a photo of the eclipse.

kevenh - Thanks for the post. Good view of it in North Wiltshire.

Coincidentally, just yesterday , while doing a sort out, I found a bag containing 4 pairs of solar eclipse glasses that we bought in 1999, when we saw the Total Eclipse from a cliff-top campsite in South Devon.

We travelled to Reims on a coach trip to see the 1999 eclipse. Cloudy when we arrived but the clouds parted for about 5 minutes at totality and that was the last the sun was seen for the rest of the day.

I persevered. Did some visual viewing - even dragged mrskevenh out to see the eclipse and sunspots (small sunspots).
Then remembered that I need to set aside time to practice using an iphone with my scope. Instead of always realising I’m no good at it when needed for real.
My fave from lots of poor efforts: -

Sunspot #3131 top, #3126 bottom near the blob that’ll be some artefact I’ve introduced. My image is flipped by the scope and 45deg eyepiece attachment.

Got a perfectly good view using the old pin-hole camera trick. Pierce a piece of card with a hatpin and angle it flat towards the sun. Place a piece of white paper behind it and move to focus onto the white paper.
Simples.
But of course it's finished now..............

Hatpin? How quaint. ;)

Didn't notice anything here in Sussex but it has been cloudy with frequent heavy showers all morning.

In the UK we wouldn’t notice any reduction in sun light. It was only a partial eclipse and worse, we were on the edge of it’s viewing range.
